The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Zulum meets foreign NGOs, CSOs, explains closure of camps, restriction on food aide … Says only 11 communities restricted on aide  Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday met with International and Local Non-Governmental Organizations, as well as civil societies during which he once again explained the State Government’s decision for closure of IDP camps and restrictions place of food aide in resettled communities.  The meeting came at a time Governor Zulum has released billions of Naira, distributed to 115,000 safely resettled IDPs in 11 communities. Amongst them, each household made up of a husband, wife, and few children were given N200,000, while widows were given N150,000 each with large quantum of food. The Kano State Hisbah Commander, Sheikh Harun Ibn Sina has said that they will invite the parents of Miss Shatu Garko, winner of the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, to discuss the reason(s) behind her participation in the pageant. “We (Hisbah) have confirmed that Shatu Garko is a Muslim from Kano State and her parents come from Garko Local Government Area. Kano is a Sharia state and this is why we won’t allow the matter to go like that. “We will invite the parents to talk to them about the actions of their daughter and the fact that what she did was illegal in Islam in case they don’t know so that she won’t continue on that path and other girls will not copy her,” Ibn Sina told BBC News Pidgin.

Northern senators on Wednesday kicked against a proposed law for women empowerment in Nigeria, saying its content contradicts Islam and northern cultural values. Senator Abiodun Olujimi of Ekiti has been pushing to get the bill through the parliament since 2016, but some senators have raised different concerns to get the bill shut down or at least returned to the initial stages. Mrs Olujimi said the bill will “allow for the prohibition of all forms of discrimination against women and provide for the equality of all persons,” including people of determination in the society. But some northern senators said the bill was not properly worded, especially its title that seeks equality rather than equity; while arguing strongly that it would contravene the tenets of Islam. “This equality infringes on the Quran,” Abubakar Yusuf, representing Taraba Central Senatorial District, said at today’s plenary. “I will not support the passage of the bill until the word equality is removed. KDSG Security Update: Wednesday 22nd December 2021.  Troops foil attack, neutralize two bandits in Igabi LGA.  The military authorities have reported to the Kaduna State Government that troops foiled an attack by bandits in Birnin Yero, Igabi local government area.  According to the report, bandits barricaded the road from Birnin Yero to Kosau, where they kidnapped one Sulaiman Abubakar.  An alarm was raised and troops from the Jura military base swiftly mobilized to the location and pursued the retreating bandits. A gun duel followed, and the troops prevailed, neutralizing two of the bandits and rescuing the abducted person.  Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed his elation at the report, and commended the troops for their swift response, pursuit of the bandits and the successful rescue.
