  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  U.S. Supreme Court rules to keep Trump on Colorado ballot The US Supreme Court on Monday ruled that former President, Donald Trump should appear on the ballot in Colorado. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 in favour of Trump. According to the CNN, it is a decision with nationwide implications that followed months of debate over whether the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination violated the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist clause” because of his role in the January 6, 2021, riot. The court was unanimous on the idea Trump could not be unilaterally removed from the ballot, but justices were divided on how broadly the decision would sweep. A 5-4 majority said no state could dump a federal candidate off any ballot, but four justices asserted that the court should have limited its opinion. FUBARA INSPECTS STATE OF ABANDONMENT OF ISAKA LANDING JETTY  Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara says reconstruction work will commence immediately on the abandoned Isaka Community Landing Jetty. Governor Fubara said he has already directed the release funds so that the work can be accomplished within weeks.  The governor gave the assurance when he embarked on an inspection tour on Monday evening to the Witt- and-Butch end in Port Harcourt, where boats take-off to Isaka main Town in Okrika Local Government Area. Governor Fubara who was accompanied by Chief Ibibia Walter, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was greeted by cheers from travelers and people doing business in the area. Recall that two days ago, precisely on Saturday, 2nd March, 2024, during the reception organised by Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs and people of Okrika to honour King Ateke Michael Tom, governor Fubara promised to reconstruct the jetty.

 A truly shocking and breaking story out of Louisiana! Convicted sex offender stabbed to death by woman he attempted to sexually assault.  40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant was found on Sunday, unresponsive, with a visible stab wound. He was inside of a laundromat that he had entered to sexually assault a woman.  The St.Tammany Parish Sheriff's office had responded to the laundromat in response to a 911 call about the attack. Police say Tranchant entered the laundromat and brandished a sharp weapon in an attempt to sexually assault a woman that was doing her laundry at the time. Apparently there was a struggle and the woman amazingly gained control of the weapon and used it to fatally stab Tranchant. The woman was treated for injuries sustained during the struggle. Her current condition is unknown. Sheriff Randy Smith said, "I want to compliment this brave woman and the strength she showed in fighting back against her attacker and ask for prayers for her continued recovery."

Court Jails Three Fraudsters for Currency Racketeering in Ilorin   Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court in Ilorin has convicted and sentenced three currency racketeers to various jail terms for selling new naira notes to the public for commercial purposes. The convicts are:  Asmau Sallah Wuraola, Owoduni Abdullahi Isa (a.k.a Bolaji) and  Shuaibu Rukayat.  The FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, says the FCT Administration will establish a police post in all its warehouses to prevent miscreants from invading and looting their contents.  Guinness World Records dismisses Ghanaian chef’s 227-hour cook-a-thon Guinness World Records has turned down Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak’s attempt to break the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. Failatu attempted to cook nonstop for over 227 hours in January, but failed because she didn’t follow the regulations for rest breaks. The coordinator, Kafui Dey, announced the failed attempt, which had received broad endorsements from Ghana’s military, politicians, and celebrities. “A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.” Chef Abdul-Razak thanked her fans in spite of the setback, stating that she doesn’t take their important role in her path for granted.

 AfDB grants Nigeria $134 million to cultivate rice, maize, others.  The African Development Bank (AfDB) provides Nigeria with $134 million in support for the cultivation of essential crops such as rice, maize, cassava, and soybeans, aiming to enhance food production.  Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, the bank’s president, announced on Saturday that $134 million is being allocated to support this initiative, following his visit to the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) at Bayero University, Kano.  Adesina informed newsmen that the bank is set to back Nigeria in cultivating 300,000 hectares of both rice and maize, alongside 150,000 hectares of cassava and 50,000 hectares of soybeans for the planting season of 2024.  * “This March, the AfDB is supporting Nigeria to cultivate 118,000 hectares of heat-tolerant varieties of wheat and another 150,000 hectares of maize.  * “We live in an era of climate change and yet only three per cent of African agriculture is under irrigation.  Jos Prison: We Didn't Reduce Inmates Food Ration - Plateau Command The Plateau Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service says it has not reduced the quantity and quality of food rations for inmates. Spokesman of the command, Mr Godfrey Longdiem, stated this in Jos on Saturday while reacting to media reports that inmates at the Jos Custodial Centre protested over shortage of food on Friday.  How kidnappers used my son to steal two bags of rice -- Pastor A 12-year old Junior Secondary School (JSS-2) student, (name withheld), who was allegedly used to steal two bags of rice by suspected kidnappers has been found. His father, Pastor Joshua Ogbonna told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos that suspected kidnappers allegedly took his son and used him to steal two bags of rice valued at N180,000 from a food stuff seller.
