 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. FORCE COMMANDER PAYS MAIDEN VISIT TO SECTOR 2 BAGASOLA - CHAD The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali has paid a maiden familiarisation visit to Sector 2 Bagasola, Chad. The visit was held on 2 August 2023. During the visit, Major General Ali commended the troops for the successes recorded in stabilizing the Lake Chad region. He emphasized that the MNJTF will not rest till it clears remnants of terrorists from  Lake Chad Islands known as “Tumbums”. He Therefore urged the sector not to relent until that objective is achieved. Coup: Nigeria Cuts Electricity Supply To Niger August 2, 2023 Major cities in the Niger Republic are experiencing prolonged blackouts after Nigeria cut its power supply to the neighbouring West African country, according to Nigelec, an electricity company in Niger. The development followed an emergency meeting by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where sanctions, including freezing utility services, were imposed on the Niger Republic over its coup. The cities of Niamey, Maradi, and Zinder each witnessed about an hour of electricity at a time before it went off for about five hours. Man Jailed for Giving False information to EFCC The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of one Misbah Ahmed before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court on a one count charge bordering on false information. The defendant misled operatives of the Commission into believing that a huge sum of money in foreign currency was stashed in a residence located at Federal Housing Low-cost, Tudun Wada, Zamfara State. Ahmad sometime in June, 2023 at Kaduna, willfully gave false information to an officer of the Commission that a large sum of money in United States of America currency (USD) was fraudulently kept at a residence located at Federal Housing Low-cost, Tudun Wada Zamfara State, which he knew to be false. EFCC Secures Conviction of Barber, Two Others for Internet Fraud in Kaduna The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of the trio of Miracle Obiduikwu (aka Jevonta Latimer), Baneywu Kuzayet Ambrose (aka Alexa Daisy) and Francis Uba Chidebere (aka Cherrycapricott) before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna on separate one count charge bordering on internet fraud.  The defendants who were arrested in different parts of Kaduna following intelligence linking them to various internet fraud-related activities, were found to have defrauded some foreign nationals through social media.  They all pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them. LASG ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF CULVERTS ACROSS LAGOS-ABEOKUTA EXPRESSWAY As part of efforts to address the perennial flooding challenge at Ilepo bus stop in Alimosho Local Government Area, the Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion at the Kataguwa/Ilepo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for the construction of culverts starting from Friday, 4th August 2023. Consequently, the following alternative routes will be available to motorists during the construction period: 1. Traffic from Iyana Ipaja towards Abule-Egba will be diverted to the BRT Lane from Iyana Ipaja. 2. Traffic from Iyana Ipaja towards Abule Egba and traffic from Abule-Egba inward Iyana Ipaja will be diverted to service lanes.  3. Traffic from Abule-Egba towards Iyana Ipaja will be diverted to the BRT lane from Abule-Egba. 60 CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM LAGOS’ FREE LIMB DEFORMITY CORRECTIVE SURGERY PROGRAMME … As Lagos Targets 1000 Beneficiaries  No fewer than 60 people, mainly children have benefited from the Lagos State Government-sponsored Free Limb Deformity Corrective Surgery and Rehabilitation Programme, an intervention targeted at the treatment and rehabilitation of people especially children with lower limb deformities. Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, who disclosed this today when he visited the latest beneficiaries of the surgical intervention exercise at the Gbagada General Hospital, stated that the 60 beneficiaries were amongst the 213 potential beneficiaries that were earlier screened in the latest phase of the exercise.
