The Adamawa State Police Command on Monday, June 6, apprehended an 18-year-old suspect for the alleged brutal murder of a 36-year-old woman, Talatu Alh. Usman, and her one-year-old child in Lamurde Local Government Area. The spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in a statement released, said both the suspect Volamu Kalbes and the victims are residents of Sabon Layi village in Lamurde LGA. The suspect allegedly attacked the victim by the riverside where she went to take her bath alongside her child. ''The Victim was said to have resisted an attempt by the suspect to r@pe her but to no avail, as he overpowered her as a result of which he subdued and pressed her down into the water where she d!ed. As this was not enough, the Suspect took the child who was crying uncontrollably on the river bank and pressed him into the water until he became l!feless. Kaduna Catholic Archdiocese Buries Priest Murdered By Terrorists Without Corpse The funeral rites of the Catholic priest of Kaduna Catholic Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Joseph Bako Aketeh, who was killed by terrorists, were on Tuesday performed at St. John’s Catholic Church Kudenda, Kaduna without his corpse. Fr. Aketeh was abducted at his residence within the church on March 8 and was eventually killed by his abductors who did not release his remains. He was abducted with his brother, Sunday Bako, who was also killed in captivity. Presiding over the funeral rites yesterday, Leadership quoted the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Mrs Soludo Becomes Anambra State Net Ambassador Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has been made the Anambra State Net Ambassador. Mrs Soludo received the ambassadorial badge during the official flag off of the distribution of 3.8 million free Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) to Anambra homes, in Awka. The Governor's wife was given the honour in recognition of her age-long efforts in hygiene and healthy living. Appeal Court Affirms Okey Nwosu’s Conviction Attempt by the former managing director of the defunct FinBank Plc, Mr. Okey Nwosu and Dayo Famoroti to set aside their conviction by Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos High Court literally hit the rock today June 8, 2022 as the Court of Appeal sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos upheld their conviction as well as the three years jail terms slammed on them. However, the appellate court reduced the restitution order made from Eighteen Billion Naira to Ten Billion Naira on the grounds that the bank (FinBank Plc.) had recovered about Eight Billion Naira. Justice Okunnu, had in January 2021 convicted and sentenced Okey Nwosu and Famoroti to three years imprisonment over N19.2 billion fraud. EFCC, Investment Ministry to Tackle Intellectual Property Issues The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, assured the Registrar, Trademarks, Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, Barrister Shafiu Adamu Yauri, of the Commission’s preparedness to collaborate with it in sanitizing the business environment for the betterment of the country. “I want to assure you that our arms are open, we will collaborate together to ensure that the sanity that your department wants to bring to the system is enhanced by the enforcement and prosecution of those that cross the line.” The EFCC boss who spoke during a courtesy visit by the Registrar and his team to the Commission, noted that trademark infringements and other intellectual property violations were within the purview of the Commission, adding that the Commission will not hesitate to deal with those who cross the line.
