  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.         Today at the 8th Senate, we passed the Whistle Blower Protection Bill, which is another one of our Anti-Corruption Bills. This Bill:       1. Seeks to encourage and facilitate the disclosures of improper conduct by public officers and public bodies; 2. Ensures that people who make disclosures and persons who may suffer reprisals in relation to such disclosures are protected under the law; and 3. Ensures that people who make disclosures shall not​ be subject to victimization by their employers or by fellow employees. This Bill will also protect the lives of those who risk themselves to expose corrupt practices in Nigeria. Moving forward, the 8th Senate will continue to remain committed to the Anti-Corruption fight of this administration.

KWARA STATE RELEASES N1B TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FOR SALARY ARREARS TODAY.

                The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has approved the release of N1b to local government councils in the state to offset part of their salary arrears.       The State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, who made the announcement in a statement released in Ilorin, said the N1b is part of the N5.1b received by the state government as its share of the Paris Club refunds from the Federal government this  week. Banu said the N5.1b received by the state government is 12.5 per cent lower than the amount it was expecting from the federal government. The Commissioner said the balance of the refund will be utilized for projects and programs designed to enhance the welfare and security of all citizens and residents of Kwara State.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were met by Canada's Governor-General, His Excellency Mr David Johnston and saw a  Royal Collection Trust  exhibition which highlights the special place of Canada House in the United Kingdom.  Objects from The Royal Archives included an original program from the opening of Canada House in 1925 by King George V, a  message from King George to people in the Eastern Canadian Arctic and Hockey memorabilia which had been presented to The Queen on various tours. After meeting guests The Queen and The Duke saw a performance by singer Eve Daniell.The Queen was then presented with a Sapphire Jubilee gift by the Governor-General and signed the visitor's book. More photos below.

NIGERIAN TROOPS INTERCEPTED A SUICIDE BOMBER AT DALA YESTERDAY NIGHT.{PHOTOS}.

                                                     Troops of 251 Battalion, 7 Division Nigerian Army on Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Dala village on Tuesday 18th July 2017 at about 10.00pm intercepted a suspected suicide bomber who attempted to cross through their forward defences. Upon several challenges and warning shots the suspect refused to halt. The suspect who still continued to approach towards the troops location was immediately neutralized. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency and the International Committee of the Red Cross have since been contacted to evacuate the suspect remains. It will be recalled that three days ago, on Sunday 16th July 2017, our troops deployed at Mammanti, also averted another catastrophe when they intercepted and neutralized 2 female Boko Haram terrorists suicide bombers who tried to infiltrate and attack the village through troops parapet at about 10.15pm. NIGERIAN TROOPS INTERCEPT 30 FLEEING BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS FAMILIES IN GONIRI.YESTERDAY.{PHOTOS}.

                 Today, Tuesday 18th July 2017, troops of 120 Task Force Battalion, 27 Task Force Brigade at about 10.25am intercepted 30 fleeing suspected escaping Boko Haram terrorists at Goniri, Gujba LGA, Yobe State. The suspects comprise of 8 women and 22 children. On preliminary interrogation, the suspected claimed to have escaped from Boko Haram terrorists’ custody at Kafa and Abagajiri villages in Damboa LGA of Born o state. Similarly, yesterday at about 2.30pm the troops also intercepted 7 women and children escaping from Boko Haram terrorists at Kamuya, Yobe State. They claimed that they escaped from Boko Haram terrorists’ hideout at Goropcha village, Damboa LGA of Borno State. Both sets of escapees are currently being screened and profiled by the Brigade. AMOSUN PAYS N4.5BN COOPERATIVE DEDUCTIONS ARREARS TO WORKERS IN OGUN STATE.

               Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has approved the total sum of N4.5 billion for the payment of cooperative deductions arrears to all categories of workers in the state. This was disclosed on Tuesday in Abeokuta by the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Oshinowo. Giving a breakdown of the payments, Oshinowo said N3.4 billion has been disbursed for the payment of six months arrears of outstanding cooperative deductions to all categories of the workforce at the state level. Another N1.1 billion was disbursed for the payment of three months of outstanding cooperative deductions to workers at the Local Government level. He said another sum of N1.2 billion would be expended on state expenditure. Explaining the source of the fund, the Finance Commissioner said, it came from the N5.7 billion Ogun State government received from the Paris Club refund, which the Federal Government recently shared to different states of the Federation.
