  Correctional officer dies in Bauchi during over food dispute with colleague  A tragic incident occurred at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State, Nigeria leading to the death of an officer attached to the centre.  According to reports, the correctional officer allegedly lost his life following a dispute over food with a colleague. The incident took place in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, around 2 p.m. The deceased, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma from Giade LGA and his colleague, Kabiru Abubakar from Dass LGA of the state, were close friends known to many in the Centre.  The altercation began when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Kabiru insisted on eating the food against Chiroma’s will, leading to a heated argument. Tragically, the confrontation escalated into a physical fight, resulting in Chiroma falling to the ground after being headbutted by Kabiru. DAILY POST reported that Akpata alongside the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress are the leading contenders of the Edo State number one sit.  Generator fumes kills husband as wife escapes death in Ogun One Nwachukwu Ikechukwu has been confirmed dead, and his wife, Oyin Falodun, is hospitalized after inhaling fumes from their generating set at their residence in Shogoye community in the Owode Egba area of Ogun State. The deceased was found lifeless on the floor, while his wife was unconscious, by a community resident identified as Oladayo Olasubomi, who had come to pay the daily contribution of N1,000 to his wife. Upon seeing them, Olasubomi raised an alarm and alerted other community members, who rushed to the apartment. Confirming the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola said the chairman of the community, Showunmi Sunday, reported the incident at about 11:00 a.m. on Friday.  FG to backdate minimum wage payment to July 29 The Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants has agreed that the new minimum wage will be implemented from 29 July 2024. This was stated in a Memorandum of Understanding issued at the end of the committee’s meeting, which was seen by our correspondent in Abuja on Friday. The committee also recommended that the wage award, which was discontinued by the Federal Government, should be paid until 28 July 2024.
