  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.        Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has sworn in Justice Mosunmola Arinola Dipeolu, as the new Chief Judge of the state. Dipeolu, the second female chief judge of the state, after her female predecessor, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, who recently retired from service, was sworn in during the state Executive Council meeting, held at the Governor's office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Amosun charged her to discharge her duties without fear or favour, adding that "this swearing in comes with a lot of huge responsibilities and more is demanded of you, knowing the status of Ogun State in the comity of states in Nigeria." He assured of the continued non interference in the affairs of the Judiciary, by his government and the next administration. NEMA DEPLOYED WATER PURIFIER MOBILE EQUIPMENT TO IDPS NIGER,KOGI,ANAMBRA AND DELTA.{PHOTOS}.

      NEMA has deployed water purifier mobile equipment to IDPs camps in the worst affected communities that were devastated by flood. The states are Niger, Kogi, Anambra and Delta where the agency, acting on the authority delegated by the President has declared a national emergency.   The water purifier mobile equipment have been moved to the states with NEMA staff trained on the operations to help in providing clean water for the IDPs in the camps.One more photo below.

EFCC ARRAIGNS 2 NSCDC OFFICERS OVER FRAUD.{PHOTOS}.

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal office, has arraigned the duo of Mainasara Malami and Emmanuel Salihu (both staff of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp) on a two count charge bodering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence; before Justice Umar Dogon Daji of the High Court of Sokoto State. They both pleaded not guilty, and Prosecution Counsel Sa'ad Hannafi Sa'ad, requested for  a date for commencement of trial while praying the accused be remanded in prison custody. Defence Counsel tried to move an oral application for bail of the accused persons but Justice Dogon Daji refused, asking that formal applications for bail must be filed. Justice Dogon Daji thereafter, ruled that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to 8th of October, 2018 for hearing of bail applications and commencement of trial.       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, told Justice Muhammad Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos how a suspended Branch Manager of Heritage Bank Plc in Yenogoa, Iwejuo Nna Joseph, allegedly concealed funds through his son’s account.   The defendant was arraigned alongside Dudafa Waripamo-Owei, a former Senior Special Adviser on Domestic Matters to former President Goodluck Jonathan, on June 11, 2016, on a 23-count charge of conspiracy to conceal proceeds of crime to the tune of N1.6 billion. While cross-examining Joseph who gave evidence in his defence, the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked him to confirmed that he deposited various sums of money including N9.5m on January 22, 2014 to his son's bank account.  In response, Joseph, who disclosed that his son was born on December 28, 2006 and that he opened an account for him soon afterwards, answered in the affirmative.
