 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

      The attention of the Fede ral Road Safety Corps has been drawn to an online publication where the Sector Commander, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Corps Commander Wobin Ayuba Gora was quoted out of context on the use of google map app while driving, during the 2019 'Ember Months' flag off held in Lugbe, FCT on Wednesday. According to the writer, the FCT Sector Commander while delivering his ember m onths address stated that driving with the aid of Google map using mobile phone is a serious traffic offence. The Corps wishes to state that the Sector Commander must have been misquoted and his statement outrightly misrepresented because the Federal Road Safety Corps as a technology driven organisation is not and has never stood against the use of google map by motorists.       The EFCC on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 arraigned Alhaji Yusha'u Mohammed Kebbe before Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna on an eight-count charge, bordering on conspiracy and criminal breach of trust involving multi-million sums of money. The complainant alleged that in 2006 while he was in Sudan for a United Nations military operations, the defendant who is his childhood friend convinced him t o invest in some projects that he is handling, for which he transferred the sum of N80,000,000 (Eighty Million Naira) in local currency to him and $156,200,000 (One Hundred and Fifty-six Million, Two Hundred Thousand Dollars) for investment, safe keeping and settlement of personal commitments on his behalf. The complainant through enquiries later found out that the defendant diverted all the monies for his personal use while all the efforts to recover them have proved abortive till date.More photos below.

      President Muhammadu Buhari strongly condemns on-going violence in the Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, which has in the past 24 hours led to a yet to be ascertained number of deaths and arson attacks. So far, there have been claims and counter claims as who restarted the killings and arson between neighbouring Nsadop and the Boje communities. While the origin of the mayhem is sti ll unclear, President Buhari notes that no dispute or grievance is worth the violent snatching away of another person's life. Nigerians must learn to live peacefully with each other and seek less brutish means of resolving conflicts. Our country does not need another war. President Buhari understands that our security agencies are already intervening to bring an end to the crisis.     As troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE continue to exert their superiority against remnants of Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province elements, troops of 121 Battalion deployed at Pulka in Gwoza LGA of Borno State in conjunction with elements of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) today the 26 November 2019 conducted a fighting patrol along the Mararaba Junction – Kirawa road in the same LGA. During the patrol, troops came in contact with some Boko Haram logistics elements at Sabon Gari, a known Boko Haram criminals’ crossing point into Sambisa Forest. Troops instinctively responded and neutralized 3 of the Boko Haram criminals’ logistics couriers while others escaped into the forest. Items captured in the aftermath of the encounter include 81 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, food items and 7 bicycles belonging to the criminals. SANWO-OLU CHARGES AIDS AGENCY TO TRACK 60,000 UNTREATED HIV VICTIMS.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Lagos State Government is on the trail of about 60,000 people, who tested positive to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) but did not go back for treatment. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu charged the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) to find the individuals for immediate antiretroviral therapy. The Governor gave the charge on Wednesday at the inauguration of the State’s HIV Consortium Group held at Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel in Victoria Island. The event also featured the formal dissemination of disaggregated Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS). Sanwo-Olu said the wanted HIV victims were diagnosed of the virus but they were not captured in the State’s HIV Response Database. He said the search for the individuals was to enable the State administer adequate antiretroviral treatment on them and prevent the spread of the virus.       The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been drawn to reports currently circulating in the social media, purporting that the Commission had dropped the criminal charge against a former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke and other persons indicted for money laundering. The Commission enjoins members of the public to disregard the report which is false and misleading. At no  time did the Commission withdraw the charge, which is still before Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court, Lagos. The only development was that the Commission took a prosecutorial decision to split the initial 14-count charge to enable separate arraignment of the defendants following a spate of adjournments that prevented the arraignment of the defendants more than one year after the case was listed.
