It has happened again. A Maine community is traumatized after a kindergarten student was struck and killed by a school bus right in front of his brother. This unbelievable tragedy occurred in Standish, Maine, on Tuesday, December 16th. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, the traffic incident unfolded shortly before 8 a.m. on 437 Northeast road near the intersection of Route 114. At that time, 5-year-old Simon Gonzalez was struck by a school bus from the Bonny Eagle School District. There is no information on exactly what led up to the child being struck. Simon was pronounced deceased on scene. There was only one other child on the bus at the time of the incident, sadly that one witness was Simon's half-brother. The incident is being investigated by multiple local and state agencies. Our thoughts are with the family of Simon Gonzalez as they process this unbelievable tragedy during what should have been the happiest time of the year.
