  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.                   Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun will host his colleagues from the Southwest, under the platform of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission at the MITROS Gateway Annex, Ibara, Abeokuta on Monday. The meeting will address the challenges confronting the region and set goals towards ensuring it becomes a force to be reckon with in the nation. Other areas of common interest that the forum will deliberate upon, include security, education, agriculture, infrastructure, rail and road networks. FLOODING:LAGOS GIVES QUIT NOTICE TODAY TO OWNERS OF PROPERTIES BLOCKING DRAINAGE CHANNELS+TO REESTABLISH DRAINAGE RIGHT OF WAY.{PHOTOS}.

              In a bid to mitigate the incidence of flooding, the Lagos State Government on Sunday ordered owners of properties erected on drainage channels and impeding the free-flow of water to immediately vacate or risk being removed. The Government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, expressed dismay that the lawless activities of some people was constantly putting the lives and property of residents at risk. He listed some of the areas where properties were erected on drainage channels to include Illubirin, Dolphin Estate, Osborne Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Osapa London, Ikota, Ogombo, Lekki, among others, noting that the massive investment of public fund into drainage clearing and de-silting had been compromised by structures hindering the free-flow of water.                 The Lagos State Government on Sunday attributed the building collapse which occurred at 7 Saidu Okeleji Street, Meiran in Agbado Oke -Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the State on Saturday to heavy loads placed on the building and substandard materials used for the construction work. Reacting to the collapse, the State’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Wasiu Anifowoshe commiserated with the families of those that lost their loved ones to the unfortunate incident but appealed to property owners and developers to henceforth adhere strictly to Planning and Building laws and regulations to forestall re-occurrence of incidents of building collapse in the State. CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF GIVES THEATRE COMMAND OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE DEADLINE TO CAPTURE ABUBAKAR SHEKAU.

                     Today, Friday 21st July 2017, the Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has directed the Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, to capture Abubakar Shekau, the so-called and self-styled leader of Boko Haram terrorists group, dead or alive. The Theatre Commander has further been directed to do so within  40 days. He is to employ all arsenal at the disposal of the Theatre Command to smoke out Shekau wherever he is hiding in Nigeria. 43 BOKO HARAM WHO SURRENDERED WERE AIR LIFTED YESTERDAY TO JOIN OTHER SURRENDERED INSURGENTS IN GOMBE.{PHOTOS}.

                  Forty three Boko Haram insurgents who recently surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole were on Saturday air lifted to join other surrendered insurgents in Gombe where they are to immediately commence a de-radicalization and rehabilitation programme under the auspices of Operation Safe Corridor. Speaking while handing over the surrendered insurgents to Operation Safe Corridor, the Theatre Commander  Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru gave assurance that the penitent insurgents will be given a new lease of life as they commence their journey back into the civil society through the de-radicalization and rehabilitation processes. He urged them further to embrace and undertake the programme whole heartedly to enable them benefit and positively reorient their views about life and the society in general.
