  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. 26-year-old Kano man celebrates becoming a US citizen three years after he married older American woman. A Kano man, Suleiman Isah, who married an American citizen, Janine Reimann, has become a US citizen.   Isah was 23 years old when he got married to Reiman, 46, on December 13, 2020.    The couple met on Instagram 10 months before their wedding.   Ms Reiman, a chef based in Lindon, California, subsequently flew into Nigeria for the wedding ceremony which was held at Barracks Mosque Panshekara.   In May 2023, Isah announced that he had joined the US Army.    Taking to his Facebook page on Thursday, October 26, 2023, Isah celebrated becoming an American citizen.   "Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to served in the world strongest military. Thanks to the United States military for giving me the opportunity to serve and become a citizen of the United States of America. I am now an American," he wrote. More photos below.

Musician Aisylu Chizhevskaya Mingalim, 53, married her 22-year-old adopted son Daniel Chizhevsky on 20th October in a ceremony that was held at a restaurant in Kazan, Tatarstan Republic, Russia. She adopted Daniel after meeting him at an orphanage where she gave singing lessons when he was aged just 13, according to local media. After marrying Daniel, who she began raising since he was 14, Mingalim and her new groom began making plans to flee their country. More photos below.

Recall that on Wednesday, October 25,  Blessing called out Davido over the alleged debt. She alleged that the singer was owing her former friend, IVD, the sum of. N4.5 million after he purchased a Venza for his aide, Isreal Afeara. IVD later released a statement denying Blessing’s claim that Davido owed him money from the vehicle delivered.  His post got Blessing CEO angry and she vowed to expose him. This night, she released a purported voice note of IVD claiming Davido had sent him N4m from the debt.

Supreme Court judgement: ‘Fight has just begun’ – Oby Ezekwesili Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has declared that the fight has just begun following the Supreme Court judgement that upheld President Bola Tinubu’s election in the February 25 presidential election. The judgement followed appeals filed against Tinubu’s election by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP. Atiku and Obi approached the apex court to appeal the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which dismissed their petitions against Tinubu. “The fight for a Good Society has only now started and we know that nothing can defeat a People who have had enough of the invasive Cancer of Corruption and Criminality,” Oby Ezekwesili wrote on X. “Read the story of the 70s Hong Kong to learn that in the quest for a Good Society, ‘it is never over until a people say it is over’.”

'Shaft' actor Richard Roundtree dies at 81, his battle with cancer Richard Roundtree, a US actor best known for his starring role in the Shaft film franchise, and who redefined African-American masculinity, has died aged 81, the BBC reported. He died at home in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon with his family by his side, his manager Patrick McMinn said. His death came after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He had been diagnosed with the disease two months before. Court quashes proscription of IPOB as terrorist group .Awards N8b damages to Kanu An Enugu High Court, presided over by Justice Anthony Onovo, has voided the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation. The Federal Government under Muhammadu Buhari and governors of the SouthEast region had, in 2017, proscribed the secessionist group, while the leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was clamped into detention. The court, yesterday, also declared that self-determination was not a crime and should not, therefore, be used as a basis to arrest, detain and prosecute the IPOB leader. Kanu, through his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had in January this year, approached the court to seek nullification of the proscription and terrorist tag on the group, based on the fact that it is a registered organisation with membership exercising their right of association.  DSS Releases Former EFCC Chair, Bawa Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released after spending over 3months in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The DSS, through its Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunaya, announced Bawa’s release late on Wednesday.  Police confirm death of three-year-old Aba pupil, after fall from school building The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the death of a three-year-old child, David Jacob Etim, after his fall from his school’s building in Aba, describing the incident as “sudden and unnatural death”. The late Etim, according to a police statement, was a pupil of Emerald International School, located near Crystal Park road in Aba, where the incident happened. The statement, which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Abia Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said the incident was reported to the Ndiegoro divisional headquarters on October 17, 2023 by Mr Jacob Etim Udo, the father of the victim. Mohbad did not want Naira Marley, Sam Larry to kill me – Mother opens up Abosede, the mother the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, on Wednesday, told the Coroner’s Inquest that her son was shielding her from being killed by former label boss, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley and his ally, Sam Larry. According to her, Naira Marley constantly harassed Mohbad and the singer lived in fear. “He always mentioned Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, and he was always shaking. I begged him several times to allow me to speak with them, but he refused, saying he didn’t want them to kill me. “The last time he travelled for a show, after he came back, he mentioned to me that Naira Marley came to attack him, he reported the case to the police but I don’t know if the police invited Naira Marley,” Abosede said. Mohbad died under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023.
