EFCC TASKFORCE ARRESTS 34 SUSPECTED CURRENCY SPECULATORS IN ABUJA. (PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE.

 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

         The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) will, on Wednesday, April 17, embark on the verification of documents submitted by candidates of political parties contesting for the vacant councillorship seat in Ward A (Obele/ Oniwala) in Surulere Local Government Area of the State. A statement issued today by LASIEC requested candidates of political parties contesting for the by-election to present  original copies of all documents earlier submitted to the Commission alongside their forms for screening, noting that the list of validated candidates will be posted on the Notice Board of the Commission on Thursday, April 18. It stated further that the register of eligible voters for the election is already on display at the Collation Centre of the Ward located in Obele Odan Primary School, Surulere, urging registered voters to visit the centre to verify their details as contained in the register. ARMY APPREHEND 5 KIDNAPPERS, RESCUE 5 HOSTAGES IN ONDO STATE.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      Following credible information of kidnap incident involving nine (9) persons at Mr Godwin Ugu Integrated Agric Farm Owo, troops of 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure have in the early hours of today Tuesday the 16th of April 2019 (at about 1:00 am), conducted a raid operation on the kidnappers' hideout at Jugbere village in Owo Local Governnent Area of Ondo State. The operation resulted in the arrest of 5 kidnappers and rescue of 5 hostages and 4 other abductees escaped from the kidnappers' den on arrival of troops. The rescued hostages and the arrested suspects - who had minor injuries have been taken to the Brigade Medical Centre for medical examination/treatment. During the operation, the following items were recovered from the criminals: a. 1 x Dane gun b. 1x Axe c. 2 x Cutlasses d. 8 x Live cartridges e. 1 x Handset f. 3 x Ring charms The suspects will be handed over to the appropriate civil security agency at the conclusion of preliminary investigation.

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, re-arrested Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia to enable it to prefer a fresh criminal charge against her. The Commission re-arrested Ofili-Ajumogobia in line with the decision of the Appeal Court, Lagos Division, in a case involving Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, where it said that a judge could not be prosecuted until he or she had either been dismissed or compu lsorily retired by the National Judicial Council, NJC. Consequent upon the fact that the Commission had presented Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia before the NJC for disciplinary action and that the NJC had taken a position, the Commission would now approach the court to prefer fresh charges her. The Commission had first arraigned Ofili-Ajumogobia and Godwin Obla, SAN, on a 30-count charge on Monday, November 28, 2016 on offences bordering on perversion of the course of justice, graft, unlawful enrichment, providing false information and forgery.

      The Inspector General of Police, Mr Adamu Mohammed on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode over recent cases of extra-judicial killings recorded in the State, vowing that all the affected officers would be charged to court and made to face the full wrath of the law. Speaking at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, Mohammed who was accompanied on the visit by top Police chiefs, said the affected officers have already been arrested and tried internally, but that they would also face criminal prosecution for such act, which according to him, was against ethics of the Force.
