 Outcries Over State Recognised Vigilantes In North-West   The security outfits established by various state governments, especially in the North-West, are being accused of indiscriminate arrests and killing of suspects, as well as innocent people without recourse to judicial processes, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. But those charged with the responsibility of managing the outfits have debunked the claims of extrajudicial killings, though some admitted what they described as “overzealousness” by some of the operatives. It was alleged that in some states, long lists of suspected bandits, their supporters or sympathisers have been arrested and ultimately killed, and such acts are allegedly being carried out without recourse to the police and other law enforcement agencies. LAGOS LAUNCHES REALITY TV SHOW ON RESCUE OPERATION.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

       The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said it has launched a reality television programme to showcase the efforts and strategies of emergency management agencies before, during and after rescue operations, with the view to deepen safety of lives and property in the State. The State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan who said this while addressing a press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, said the programme, tagged ‘Lagos Rescue’, was also designed to enlighten residents of their responsibilities during emergency situations. He said the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, in the last three and half years, had invested massively in safety of lives and property and towards enhancing the activities of emergency management agencies, adding that the new initiative was another demonstrable commitment to the welfare of the people. EFCC ARRESTED A MAN FOR FAILURE TO DISCLOSE $207,000.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kano zonal office on December 31, 2018 arrested Sani Abdullahi, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, for money laundering offence. Abdullahi was arrested on board Ethiopian Air enroute Kano to China for failing to fully declare the sum of $207,000 (Two Hundred and Seven Thousand Dollars) in his possession, to the authorities. He declared the sum of $86,000 (Eighty Six Thousand Dollars), but concealed the sum of $121,000 (One Hundred and Twenty One Thousand Dollars). The concealed sum was discovered after he was searched by operatives of the Commission. It is an offence contrary to the Money Laundering Act 2011 (as amended). The suspect has been granted administrative bail and will soon be charged to court.One more photo below.

It is therefore evident that a review is necessary, despite the prevailing fiscal challenges. EMPLOYMENT SCAM: FRAUDSTER BAGS THREE MONTHS IN GOMBE.{PHOTO}.

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe zonal office on January 8, 2019 secured the conviction of one Sule Raymond for a one-count charge bordering on cheating. Raymond was arraigned before Justice Sa'ad Muhammad of the Gombe State High Court for defrauding Daniel Solomon, a farmer of N155, 000 (One Hundred and Fifty Five Thousand Naira) only in the guise that he would help his son gain employment into the Nigerian Army. His journey to jail began in August 2017, when after collecting the said money, he deceived Solomon’s son to travel to Kaduna to meet the “officer-in-charge” of the recruitment in Zaria. After spending three days at Zaria, the son realized that the phone number given to him by Raymond actually belonged to him and not that of the expected recruitment officer.
