 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud.       The Lagos State Government will be supporting secondary schools established by the military formation across the State to increase access to education for residents. The move was disclosed on Wednesday by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Olu Irefin, on a courtesy visit at the State House in Marina. Sanwo-Olu said the State’s intervention for the military schools would specifically address deficits in staff strength, training and teaching materials, promising that the Ministry of Education would be meeting with the Army leadership to agree on modalities of the partnership.      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos zonal office, on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Okunrobo Osarenren Evans to seven years imprisonment before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos. The convict was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on October 19, 2017 on a three-count charge bordering on forgery, an  offence contrary to Section 363(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. One of the counts reads: "That you, Okunrobo Osarenren, on or about the 24th day of August, 2009 in Lagos, within the Lagos Judicial Division, knowingly forged the National Population Commission of Nigeria Certificate of Birth No. 0273682 dated Friday 24th August, 2009 in the name of Okunrobo David and purported same to have been issued by the National Population Commission of Nigeria."        A Nigerian man identified as Ediozi Odi has been handed 6 life sentences and an additional 129 years imprisonment after being found guilty of human trafficking and related charges. The Nigerian national was arraigned before Judge Natvarlil Ranchod of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday September 18, after being arrested for keeping three young girls  hostage to work as sex slaves. Victims of the Nigerian human trafficking kingpin said to be young girls mostly aged 13-14 were lured from the streets with promises of a better life by recruits (other young girls) who bring them to a brothel owned by Ediozi Odi. The girls said to come from poor homes are brought to the brothel which is reportedly a house masqueraded as a barber shop, forced to smoke a drug called “rocks” (manufactured and sold by Odi and is believed to be highly addictive) before being hooked up with clients.      The second batch of Nigerians that opted for evacuation from South Africa over xenophobic attacks have arrived Nigeria after embarking on the journey by 3:00 pm on Wednesday September 18. The 314 returnees and the Head of Immigration and Consular Matters at Nigeria’s Consulate General in Johannesburg, Mr. Anthony Ogbe arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 7:20 pm. The South Africa returnees are currently being profiled by immigration.

         Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested six fraudsters who specialize in defrauding innocent Nigerians by using bank details obtained through sim swaps and Automated Teller Machines (ATM). The suspects include Urulo Ikenna Henry, an Inspector with the Enugu Command of Nigerian Correctional Service. Others are Ugonna Nelson Owete, Ugonna Samuel Okafor Obinna, Chigbo Paschal Chidiebere, Oha Chukwujekwu Kingsley, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu The suspects were arrested in separate operations, sequel to a petition by a customer of Access Bank, alleging that monies were illegally transferred from his account without his authorisation. According to the petitioner, sometime in February, 2019, he opened an account with Diamond Bank (now Access Bank) which he funded to the tune of N5m and instructed the bank to open a fixed deposit account, with the sum of N1m from the earlier account, as opening balance. TWO ARRESTED OVER MURDER OF YOUNG GIRLS IN PORT HARCOURT HOTEL.{PHOTOS}.

      The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked the murder of two young girls at a hotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital. The state Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura who gave an update on police effort to address the killings which led to an outcry of a serial killer being on the loose, said an agreement was reached with hotel owners and managers some weeks ago over a compulsory installation of CCTV cameras. The Police boss said any hotel that fails to comply with the directive will be shut down at the end of the ultimatum. Expressing shock that some hotel owners are yet to comply with the directive, Dandaura revealed that eight young women had been murdered in the state by suspected ritual killers in the past two months and each victim always had white clothes strapped around their necks and waists. The Commissioner of Police added that one of the suspects was arrested in Kaduna after a young lady reported that he was try
