  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       Governor Samuel Ortom and governorship candidates of other political parties in Benue today signed a peace pact with a pledge to ensure peaceful elections on February 16th and Match 2nd 2019. The Governor assured Benue people that he was committed to a peaceful and transparent election in 2019, expressing the hope that the pact would promote and sustain peace among candidates and the various political parties. He stated that there was no need for any political office seeker to perpetuate violence to win election, noting that only God ordains leaders and when he chooses, there is nothing anybody can do. The Governor however noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies have a bigger role to play in ensuring peaceful elections by being unbiased and professional in their conduct.       A 73-year-old woman, Mrs Cecilia Attah, has been killed by her son at Nru, Nsukka, Enugu State. It was gathered that Mrs Attah was killed, on Wednesday, by her son who used a plank to hit her on the head. . Shortly after killing his mother, the suspect ran to the nearby Nsukka Police Station to report that his brother wanted to kill him. . The deceased is said to be the mother of a priest, Rev Fr. Nobert, who is currently on sabbatical in the U.S, with Athanasius Igwenagum Attah, 54, as the eldest. . Athanasius, a panelbeater, was seen at Nsukka Police Station, yesterday, making a statement over the issue. . A senior police officer said that the death was accidental, as Mrs Attah was trying to separate two of her sons, who were quarrelling, when one of them killed her.May her soul rest in peace,Amen.

      Irked by the flagrant abuse of the Lagos State Traffic Laws, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday evening came down hard on some recalcitrant motorists who drove against traffic along the Muritala Mohammed Airport Road, Ikeja. Returning from Abuja where he had attended the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, Governor Ambode was shocked at the manner some motorists drove ‘one way’ to beat the traffic along the Air-force Base  inward International Airport Road, Ikeja. He was particularly angry that one of the offenders, an army personnel, who drove a space bus with registration number JJJ 290 AC, would choose to blatantly contravene the law. The Governor, on sighting the vehicle, alighted from his car and reprimanded the officer for showing a bad example contrary to what the Nigeria Army is known for.       Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has charged journalists to devote more time to investigative journalism as it forms a crucial aspect of the fight against corruption.        In accordance with the provision of Section 5(1) of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) Act 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Modibbo Hamman Tukur as a Director of the Unit. This was contained in a letter dated January 7, 2019 to the Senate President seeking the confirmation of the nominee by the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly. Tukur, from Adamama State, is a holder of Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Business.
