  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.        President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over the reported killings, injury of several persons and wanton destruction of property in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of the state in the New Year. While expressing immense sadness at the “wicked and callous” attacks on even innocent children, the President assured the governor and people of the state that relevant security agencies have been directed to do everything possible to arrest those behind the regrettable incidents and avert further attacks. “This is one attack too many, and everything must be done to provide security for the people in our rural communities,” he said.        The Nigerian Army has today Tuesday 2nd January 2018, formally gone into partnership with Nigerian indigenous motor manufacturing company, Innoson Motors Manufacturing Company for modification of some of its equipment, local production of armoured fighting vehicles and other military hardwares. This was made manifest during a meeting between the management of the company let by the Chairman, Doctor Innocent Chukwuma and the leadership of the Nigerian Army led by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.        The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has said that his administration is working with the federal government on a programme that will assist skilled people to migrate legally. Obaseki who said this on Monday in his New Year broadcast, explained that the initiative is part of efforts to dissuade people from embarking on illegal and dangerous journeys to Europe by land and sea. “As part of our efforts to stop human trafficking and illegal migration, my government is currently working on a project with the Federal Government to assist people to migrate legally and properly. FRSC rescued 30 passengers in a multiple road traffic crash that occurred on the 3/01/2018, 10:40hrs at km5 along Oyo-Ibadan road.          The Lagos State Government on Wednesday sealed off a Petrol Filling Station, an Hotel and Event Centre belonging to a suspected Badoo cult kingpin, Alhaji Alaka Abayomi Kamal. The structures, situated along Ijebu-Ode-Itoikin Road in Sabo area of Ikorodu were sealed for violating the State’s Urban and Regional Planning Law of 2010. The Police, had on December 22, 2017, declared Alaka wanted in connection with series of well-orchestrated killings and nefarious activities of the Badoo cult group in Ikorodu and Epe area of the State. Alaka is believed to be the ring leader of the Badoo menace. The State Government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, said the order sealing off the structures was in pursuant to Section 60 of the said Law. AFTERMATH OF FIRE INCIDENT REPORTED BY GAS PROCESSING COMPANY : TCN , GENCOS WORKING TO RESTORE OPERATION OF NATIONAL GRID-MINISTRY OF POWER.

       Regrettably, after a sustained period of increasing production and distribution of power since September 2017 to date, the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Ltd (NGPTC) has reported a fire incident on its Escravos Lagos Pipeline System near Okada, Edo State on Tuesday, 2nd January, 2018. The incident requires a shutdown of the pipeline supplying gas to Egbin 1,320MW; Olorunsogo NIPP 676MW, Olorunsogo 338MW, Omotosho NIPP 450MW, Omotosho 338 MW and Paras 60MW power stations. The sudden loss of generation due to interruption in gas supply from these stations caused the national transmission grid to trip off around 20:20 on 2nd January 2018. The national transmission grid is owned and operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). Most of Nigeria's power generation is from thermal power stations that require gas for fuel.          An angry youngman identified as Raymond Boabey, has slashed the neck of his 18 year old girlfriend over arguments which escalated over a piece of meat. Narrating the incident, Theodora Ansah, a hairdresser said she and Raymond whom she is cohabiting with got into a fight which begun on 25 December over one piece of meat she served him. According to her, she didn’t have enough to prepare her Christmas meal so she served him rice with one piece of meat which the boyfriend wasn’ t happy about, so he confronted her angrily and slapped her in the process and kicked the lady out of his home.The victim, who is a mother of two, a three year old and a one and half year old daughters however escaped death from a near butchering incidence.Raymond who is a construction worker at Likpe Mate, a suburb of Hohoe in the Volta region however in a bid to settle the argument visited the lady to apologize and asked her to let him go home with her daughter from another man which she obliged.
