 Govt extends search for fleeing 4,000 inmates to IDP camps …to comb villages, towns, environs of fugitive prisoners  The Nigeria Correctional Service has stepped up efforts to track down and recapture escaped inmates of the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre, Niger State, Saturday PUNCH has learnt. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Thursday, said the government would relocate a lot of correctional centres to create better infrastructure and security. Tunji-Ojo made the pledge when he visited the Niger custodial centre, where 119 inmates had escaped following a rainstorm that damaged the facility on Wednesday. This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Ozoya Imohimi. The minister said it was imperative to relocate a lot of the correctional centres to a conducive environment. “This facility was built in 1914 to house 250 inmates. I DID NOT DESCRIBE THOSE ASKING FOR RESTRUCTURING AS POLITICAL JOBBERS-OSINBAJO.#PRESS RELEASE.

                          Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has expressed surprise at the news report quoting Chief Ayo Adebanjo as saying he described those agitating for restructuring as political jobbers. At no time did the Acting President say that those asking for restructuring were political jobbers looking for appointments. The video, audio tapes and full text of his speech at the National Security summit organised last week by the Department of State Services, DSS are publicly available. While several newspapers and media outlets reported Prof. Osinbajo’s said speech last Wednesday, not one of the publications made such a blatantly inaccurate claim that he said those asking for restructuring were political jobbers. Besides, the debate on restructuring is an important one and the calls for restructuring cover a wide range of legitimate and constitutionally valid issues. Indeed all Nigerians have both a right and a duty to advance their arguments on the subject.

POPE FRANCIS REACTS TO OZUBULU ANAMBRA CATHOLIC CHURCH KILLINGS,OFFERS PRAYERS.+POLICE NABBED SUSPECTS.

              After a bloody attack at a Catholic Church in southern Nigeria left 11 dead and several more wounded, Pope Francis conveyed his sympathy to the victims and their families, assuring the community of his prayer. In an Aug. 7 telegram addressed to Bishop Hilary Paul Odili Okeke of Nnewi, Pope Francis said he was “deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and injury following the violent attack in  Saint Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu.” The Pope extended his “heartfelt condolences to you and to all the faithful of the Diocese of Nnewi, in particular the families of the deceased and all those affected by this tragedy,” and offered blessings of “consolation and strength” upon the entire diocese. The telegram, signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, came after gunmen stormed St Philip's Catholic Church in the city of Ozubulu early Sunday morning, killing at least 11 people and wounding 18 more.                             The EFCC, Gombe office has in the last seven months (January -July 2017) recovered the sum of N110, 820, 023. 53. Gombe zonal Head, Aminu Ado Aliyu disclosed this on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 during a press conference in Gombe. According to him, the zone also recorded seven convictions during the period under review. Still under the period, he said while 191 suspects were invited and undergoing investigation, 54 cases have been concluded and the cases at various stages of prosecution in various courts in the zone.More photos below.

The Police in Kano State command have arrested one Yakasai Mohammed ‘m’ who is in the habit of impersonating both the police and court officials in order to defraud innocent family members of arrested suspects.The illegal activities of the said Yakasai was brought to an end after a complaint was made to the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) on 27th July, 2017 via a phone call from a female resident of Kano city (name withheld) following the Wednesday 26th July, 2017 helicopter leaflet drop of PCRRU flyers in English, Hausa and Kanuri over Kano city.
