The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Scott Alexander, the magician who captivated judges on season 6 of 'America's Got Talent,' died after suffering a stroke while performing on a cruise ship on Monday, his wife Jenny shared. "He is gone. We have lost a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, a mentor, and one hell of an entertainer. Court Jails Two in $1.6b Money Laundering Trail of Omokore and Others Two of the five persons standing trial in the $1.6billion money laundering charge before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Victor Briggs and Abiye Membere, both former top officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, were today, February 7, 2023, convicted by the court for “unethically collecting car gifts as public officials,” in contravention of section 98 of the Criminal Code Act.. According to the trial judge, public officials must act at arm’s length with private individuals, especially those that have business relations with their Departments or Agencies. The court however ordered that the fourth and fifth defendants should be kept in the custody of the EFCC pending their sentencing on Wednesday. The charge reads, “That you, Wisdom Nuhu Seth 'M' sometime in December, 2022 in Kaduna within the Judicial Division of this Honourable Court dishonestly induced one Awais Rafiq Maher, on Instagram to deliver to you the sum of Twenty Seven Thousand, Nine Hundred Pakistani Rupees ( 27,900) and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017 and punishable under Section 307 of the same Law.  He pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, prosecuting counsel, P.C Onyeneho urged the court to convict the defendant accordingly.  Justice Bello convicted and sentenced the defendant to 5 years imprisonment or a fine of N 100,000 to be paid to the Kaduna state Government.   Gunmen Kill UNIZIK Lecturer In Anambra Gunmen  have killed a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State.  Prof. Anthony Eze of Faculty of Education was reportedly killed in the early hours of Tuesday.  The Nation gathered that the assailants stormed the deceased’s residence in Awka with a Toyota Corolla salon car, shooting him at close range. A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, said the deceased attempted to flee on sighting the assailants who rushed and shot him repeatedly into his chest. He said: “We were here this morning when the man was driving out of his house and suddenly a Toyota Corolla salon car pulled towards the entrance of his house. “When he tried to drive back they followed him and shot him, emptying about four bullets into his chest. As soon as they executed their plot, they fled to an unknown destination while we ran for our lives.” He said the deceased was rushed to the General Hospital Amaku where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.

POLICE ARREST A MAN FOR ASSAULTING A WOMAN WITH TIMBER. Police officers who were patrolling the Badili area on Monday responded quickly and  saved a woman's life, when she was savagely beaten by a man. Members of the Constabulary who attended this crime said the victim from Goilala and the assailant from Western Highlands Province argued over a market spot, before the man struck the woman with a piece of timber. They were selling their bettlelnut at the location but fled when the NCDC Urban Safety Units arrived. When the NCDC officers left, they returned and began arguing over a market space. The man allegedly picked up a piece of timer and struck the woman on her back and head. The victim fell to the ground and was bleeding profusely,  when the police arrived. The victim who sustained serious injuries was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital and the suspect was arrested and detained. IPMAN Directs Members To Suspend Operations, Shut All Filling Stations The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has directed members to suspend all operations across the country. In a statement signed on Tuesday by Mohammed Kuluwu, chairman, IPMAN, the marketers were also ordered to suspend payment of ordering products from source until further notice. The association said the decision followed, “the critical situation as it affect our sourcing and selling of product at lost and the action of the authority to impose the selling of product at a lost price on our side”.

 POLICE ARREST TWO EX–CONVICTS, ONE OTHER FOR ROBBERY Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested two ex-convicts for robbing a passer-by on Olowopopo Way beside Otedola Bridge.   The suspects — Osazee Festus, aged 33, Matial Anthony, aged 23, both ex-convicts, and Osinachi Nwachukwu — were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, February 04, 2023.    The trio, wielding a cutlass, accosted their victim at about 6:20 a.m. and dispossessed him of his Samsung A19 mobile phone.    The victim promptly alerted RRS officers close to the scene who swiftly arrested two of the suspects and recovered the phone. Investigations following the arrests led to the arrest of the third suspect.    Osazee was released from prison on February 02, 2023 after eight months behind bars while Anthony regained freedom in June 2022. Johnson, who spoke with BBC Pidgin, explained that he sensed danger when he noticed the crack in his building wall. A huge earthquake killed more than 3,800 people across a swathe of Turkey and northwest Syria on Monday, with freezing winter weather adding to the plight of the many thousands left injured or homeless and hampering efforts to find survivors, Reuters reports.
