ICPC arraigns Varsity Staff Over N9.9m Contract Fraud The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned one Mr. Alanamu Zubair Olayemi, a Web Programmer II of the University of Ilorin, for alleged contract fraud and abuse of office. In a Charge No: KWS/53C/2022 brought before Hon. Justice Adenike Akinpelu of Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, ICPC accused the university staff of holding an indirect private interest in a contract awarded to Global-Wise ICT Solutions and Technology Limited of which he was the sole signatory to the company’s bank account. The Commission, therefore, in a 2-count charge preferred against the accused person, informed the court of how the public servant used his position to confer corrupt advantage upon himself as the beneficial owner of Global-Wise ICT Solutions & Technology Limited, in which account the contract sum of N9,950,800.00 was paid. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PRESIDENT BUHARI’S VISIT TO LIBERIA President Muhammadu Buhari is traveling to Liberia tomorrow, Tuesday July 26. The trip signifies the importance attached to the security and wellbeing of Liberia and the rest of West Africa. On this day, Liberia marks a Special Independence anniversary, commemorating 175 years of self-rule, with the country being the oldest independent post-colonial African State. Truck Crushes 2 Soldiers To Death In Kaduna Two soldiers of the Nigerian Army have died in an accident involving a motorcycle and waste collection truck in Kaduna State on Tuesday. An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that the two soldiers were on a motorcycle in the early hours of Tuesday to resume work at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) before the ugly incident at Mando area of Kaduna. The two soldiers (names withheld) were rushed to 44 Military Hospital before they were confirmed dead. According to the eyewitness, the soldiers fell from their motorcycle when it hit a pothole on the road and the truck coming behind them crushed them.  However, when contacted, the Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Bashir Jajira, denied knowledge of such incident.

EFCC Arrests Suspected Yahoo-Yahoo Boys in Makurdi The operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, arrested two (2) suspected internet fraudsters known as Yahoo-Yahoo Boys, in Makurdi, Benue State. The suspects are Ikenna Ojobeagu, 22 and Martins Ezeorah, 24, both from Igbo Etiti local Government Area of Enugu State.  The suspects who claimed they are sports betting agents, were arrested following actionable intelligence. Items recovered from them include one Lexus ES 350, 5 smartphone phones, 6 different types of laptop computers, charms, 62 inches Hisense TV and several incriminating documents.  

Failed Rep Ambition: EFCC Arrests Alfa, Herbalist for Alleged N24m Fraud in Ekiti Operatives of the Lagos Command of EFCC have arrested two self-acclaimed spiritualists, one Alfa Abiodun Ibrahim and Wale Adifala, who along with one Ifawole Ajibola (aka Baba Kalifa currently on the run), allegedly conspired to defraud an aspiring House of Representatives member in Ekiti State, of the total sum of N24,071,000 which they claimed was to be used to secure spiritual help for the political ambition. They were arrested on July 7, 2022 in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, following a petition against them, alleging that after collecting the said sum, the whole efforts came to a dead end. Under interrogation by operatives, Adifala, admitted to collecting the sums of money from their victim, including N2.9 million, which he claimed was used to buy black, brown and white cows, rams, lavender perfume, rings among other items, to carry out sacrifices at different times. Court Jails Land Racketeer for N4m Fraud in Maiduguri The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the EFCC on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Al –Amin Idris to six months imprisonment for cheating to the tune of N4m. The defendant was first arraigned on Monday, January 31, 2022 before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court on a one count charge following investigation into a petition alleging that he obtained N4m over the purported sale of a non-existent plot of land. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge. But midway into the charge, he changed his plea and pleaded guilty to an amended one count charge.
