  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.   The Ogun State Government is considering the need to establish an institute, which will conduct entrance examinations for prospective applicants into its Public/Civil Service. The Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi disclosed this during an interview with newsmen at his office in Abeokuta, saying it would afford Government the opportunity to be in charge of any examination that would bring in new candidates into the Service, rather than contracting it to an external body. The Commission boss said they would work out modalities with the Office of the Head of Service and Bureau of Establishment and Training to achieve the goal, by encouraging Government to put necessary measures in place, towards giving the Staff Development Centre a facelift.

  The Kauna Zonal OffIce of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today arraigned one Mohammed Tukur Kuddaya before Justice Darius Khobo of State High Court sitting in Kaduna on a three counts charge that borders on obtaining by false pretenses. Count one reads: "that you Mohammed Tukur Kudayya sometime in 2020 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud obtained the sum of ten million Naira (N10,000 000.00) from one Jamilu Buhari for the sale of property situate at Dankande along Kaduna-Zaria Expressway of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, when you knew you had no tittle to the said property and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offence Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act".   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Gombe Zonal office today arraigned the duo of Karah Emphriem and Abdullah Adamu before Justice Fatima Musa of Gombe State High Court on four counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and forgery. The defendants sometime in 2014, allegedly forged documents with which they sold a plot of land to one Muhammed Ali Bello at the cost of Three Million Naira (N3, 000, 000.00). When the buyer (Muhammed) was trying to develop the plot in 2019, Sanusi Shehu Braimah appeared and claimed ownership of the land, that he bought it from one Alhaji Sale Usman at the cost of Five Hundred Thousand Naira in 2006. Investigation by the EFCC confirmed the Certificate of Occupancy No. BA/18754 presented by Shehu to have been genuinely issued by the Ministry of Lands and Survey.   Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed sadness over the death of the chairman of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd) on Wednesday. Ndubuisi Kanu, a retired Naval Officer and former military governor of Imo State between 1976 and 1977, died at a hospital in Lagos on Wednesday morning at the age of 77 years after a brief illness.
