  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Abductors Of Kaduna-Abuja Train Victims Release  Terrorists, on Saturday, reportedly released five male and six female abducted Kaduna-Abuja train victims. Gunmen suspected to be terrorists had on March 28, 2022, abducted Kaduna-Abuja train passengers, after killing nine passengers, and wounding others. Eleven victims were released on Saturday, after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government. The terrorists had threatened to start killing the victims if the Federal Government refuses to negotiate with them. The Publisher of Desert Herald, Tukur Mamu, who served as a mediator, confirmed the development. He said his sources confided in him that the terrorists released the male captives on health grounds, adding that the women were among the vulnerable in captivity. “It was expected initially that all the abducted women will be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue but the abductors had cut down the number of women th

Teachers' recruitment: Anambra disqualifies multiple applicants  By John Ndu Awka, June 10, 2022 (MOI) The Anambra State Government has disqualified applicants whose names appeared multiple times in the ongoing teachers' recruitment.  The announcement was made on the website of the State's Ministry of Information, designed for the recruitment exercise.  It reads, ``This is to inform the public that all applicants for the ongoing teachers' recruitment exercise with multiple entries have been disqualified in line with the earlier warning. Yet to be discovered multiple applicants will also be disqualified when discovered.  ``A list with the new identification numbers of eligible candidates for the examination, coming up on Saturday, 11th June 2022 at various CBT Centres, has been uploaded on our website." LAGOS TASKFORCE DEBUNKS FAKE RECRUITMENT EXERCISE The Lagos State Taskforce has debunked an online publication being circulated about an ongoing recruitment exercise at the Agency, declaring the viral post as a figment of the imagination of dubious-minded individuals. A statement signed by the Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Shola Jejeloye, stressed that there is no ongoing recruitment exercise at the Agency.  He emphasised that recruitments into Agencies of the State Government are carried out by the State Civil Service Commission or the Public Service Office of the State and vacancies are disseminated through all State Government information outlets, as well as print and electronic media platforms. LASG EXONERATES STAFF FROM TRUMPED-UP CHARGES AFTER INVESTIGATION                                                          The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has exonerated its officer, Mr. Nuhman Edu, an Assistant Director of Transport Operations from alleged involvement in an unlicensed enforcement activity.  A statement issued by the Ministry said the Officer, who was earlier accused of collaborating with suspected agents to carry out unauthorised enforcement, came out blameless after a thorough investigation of the incident.  It explained that Edu received a notice from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) that some staff of the Ministry had been arrested for carrying out unauthorised enforcement duties and in line with his responsibility as the Secretary in charge of enforcement-related issues in the Ministry, he was invited to identify the suspects.
