 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

       A 24 year-old Internet fraud suspect, Babatunde Muhammad Bashir, who is being prosecuted by the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court on four counts of internet fraud today informed the court of his decision to enter into a plea bargain negotiation with the prosecution. . . The defendant had on October 8, 2019 pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the four count charge, brought against him by the EFCC.

      The EFCC, Lagos office, today, October 30, 2019 arraigned a Senior Naval Officer, Bola Labinjo with service name as Lt.Cdr S. A. Ibe Lambert and fourteen others before Justice Hassan of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi on a two count charge bordering on conspiracy and unlawful dealing on petroleum product, an offence contrary to Section 17(a) and (b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Revised Edition) 2004 and punishable under the same Law. Those arraigned alongside Bola Labinjo are: Jonathan Abaka, Charles Ikemefuna Agaba, Benjamin Gold Gageche, Hamza Yakubu, Emmanuel Oputa, Peter Dung Pulle, Innocent Akpan, Kehinde Labinjo, Pius Mathew Paul, Onoja Musa Emmanuel Adeleke Hamed. Others are a vessel and two companies namely: M.T. Adeline Jumbo, Global Shipping Activities Bureau Limited and Labland and Sea Services Limted. LASG SET TO AUCTION VEHICLES IMPOUNDED FOR VIOLATION OF TRAFFIC LAW.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has concluded arrangements to auction vehicles of 31 traffic offenders already convicted by the Court for driving against traffic as well as 22 automobiles that were abandoned for over six months after the arrest of their riders. Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that the owners of the impounded vehicles who abandoned their cars contravened the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, stating that public notice had been issued for owners of both the court forfeited and abandoned cars to identify their vehicles at the Agency's car parks in Ikorodu and Bolade-Oshodi. "At the expiration of the one-month verification exercise the Agency shall apply to court for an order of 'Public Auction' where members of the public would have opportunity to buy any of these vehicles”, the Chairman said.      The Lagos State Government has disbursed the sum of N1.181billion accrued pension rights into the Retirement Savings Accounts of another batch of 279 retirees of its Civil Service. The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) Mrs. Folashade Onanuga made the disclosure at the 68th Retirement Benefit Bond Certificate presentation ceremony held on Tuesday in Alausa, Ikeja. She affirmed that the present administration is committed to the regular payment of retirees’ benefits to ensure that beneficiaries do not undergo financial pressure after meritorious service to the State. Onanuga assured the retirees of the government’s interest in their wellbeing in old age, noting that the issue of backlog payments was being addressed as additional funds would soon be released in tranches for further payments.

      Yesterday evening, The Queen, accompanied by The Countess of Wessex, held a reception at Buckingham Palace celebrating the work of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust as the charitable foundation prepares to close in 2020. Commonwealth Heads of Government decided to create a Trust in 2012 to mark and celebrate Her Majesty’s sixty-year contribution to the Commonwealth. The Trust’s work has since focused on helping to prevent avoidable blindness and to empower a new gener ation of young leaders. Its mission is to leave a lasting legacy owned by the whole Commonwealth, in honour of Her Majesty. The Trust has helped more than 22 million people in Africa and the Pacific receive vital antibiotics to combat trachoma - the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness and provided sight-saving surgery to over 104,000 people suffering with trachoma trichiasis.        Today The Duchess of Cornwall celebrated the achievements of young women during a visit to Mulberry School for Girls in East London. The school is involved with the global  WOW - Women of the World Festival  and Her Royal Highness’s visit included a tour of a WOW marketplace in the school’s library. Stalls were based on the theme ‘Partnership of Equals’ and highlighted the topic of gender equality. The Duchess visited English and Dance classes before meeting students working on  oil paintings and watching a performance by the Mulberry Theatre Company. The Duchess is President of the Women of the World Festival, and has attended several WOW events across the globe. Her Royal Highness will take part in a WOW event in New Zealand next month during The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall’s forthcoming Autumn Tour.
