EFCC TASKFORCE ARRESTS 34 SUSPECTED CURRENCY SPECULATORS IN ABUJA. (PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE.

 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

A CHINESE MAN ''XIONG'',COMMITTED SUICIDE IN FRONT OF A BANK TODAY IN CHINA.

                    According to sources,a man hanged himself in front of a Chinese bank this morning after not being able to cope with losing money to telephone scams.The man,known only by his surname of Xiong,lost more than 10,000 Yuan {£1,043} when he recently became a victim of fraud in Henan Province,central China.His lifeless body was found hanging in full view of the public outside the Agricultural Bank of China in the city of Xinxiang this morning.According to the report,Mr Xiong lost the money two days ago after he received a telephone call that turned out to be a scam.He transferred more than 10,000 Yuan to the criminal behind the scam through the Agricultural bank in Xinxiang where he was found.It's understood that the money was Mr Xiong's savings which he had brought from hometown Zhoukou to Xinxiang a month ago in order to start a small business.He contacted the police and the bank as soon as he realised he had been conned.But this morning he went back to the bank

THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO,IS SET TO RELEASE 2,000 PRISONERS THIS MONTH.

              According to their Justice Minister Alexis Thambwe,he said yesterday tuesday that Democratic Republic of Congo will release 2,000 prisoners this month in a move to bring calm the political tension with the upcoming elections and to reduce overcrowding in the jails.The Justice Minister gave the number of the level offenders to be released as 1200,the prisoners who would have served one quarter of their sentences,received approval from the prison director and prosecutor general will be freed this month.The remaining number of 800 prisoners will be those that were pardoned by President Kabila last week.The President announced that prisoners over the age of 70 years detained for crimes that were not serious should be released.He added that the members of the separatist religious movement also be released from prison.DR Congo's jails hold around 20,000 prisoners,a number that is way past its capacity according to the United Nations.One more photo below.                    

EX-NIGERIAN DEFENSE MINISTER,CHARGED WITH MONEY LAUNDERING.

                  According Reuters,Nigerian former defense minister Bello Haliru Mohammed,has been charged with money laundering and criminal breach of trust over 300 million naira {$1.5 million} intended for defense spending.Bello Haliru Mohammed served under former President Goodluck Jonathan,who lost an election last year to President Muhammadu Buhari.Buhari says he wants to root out widespread corruption.The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said Mohammed and his son,Bello Abba Mohammed,were charged with diverting funds meant for the procurement of arms through the office of the National Security Adviser in March 2015.The former defense minister and his son pleaded not guilty at Abujs's high court and the case was adjourned until thursday for a bail hearing.One more photo below.

                                                               Today wednesday it was reported that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode approved the appointment of Ptofessor Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun as the 8th substative Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University {LASU}.The appointment was contained in a statement signed today wednesday by the state's Commissioner for information and strategy,Mr Steve Ayorinde.According to the statement,following the expiration of the tenure of Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University on 31st October,2015,the Deputy Vice-Chancellor {Administration},Professor Fidelis Olisamedua Njokanma assumedthe position of Acting Vice-Chancellor.Professor Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun,is a Prosser of Environmental Law,was until his appointment Director of Research at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.He was born on 19th October,1966 and hails from Akesan in the Alimosho Local Government area of Lagos

NERC SAID THE NEW ELECTRICITY TARIFF WILL TAKE OFF 1ST OF FEBRUARY.

                 Today wednesday,the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission said the take off date of the new electricity tariff {MYTO 2015} remains February 1.In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja,NERC said it has told distribution companies to abide by its directive not to connect new customers without first providing them with meters.''We wish to state that at no time did the commission change the date for the take off  of the new tariff''.The acting Head of the Commission Dr.Anthony Akah,said the removal of fixed charge under the new tariff regime was in response to electricity consumers complaints and a measure to ensure electricity distribution companies improve on service delivery as their income is dependent on the quantity of electricity used by their customers''.One more photo below.
