 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud.  EFCC Arraigns Three Businessmen for Fraud in Maiduguri The Maiduguri Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, July 8, 2021 arraigned three businessmen Lawan Karta, Aisami Sherif and Babagana Bulama, before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri for the offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, misappropriation, and obtaining money under false pretence.  Karta and Sherif were jointly arraigned on a two-count  charge for allegedly  selling a purported plot of land to one Mohammed Umar Bolori in the sum of N10, 000, 000.00 (Ten Million Naira). Investigation revealed that the complainant made a deposit of N5, 000, 000.00 (Five Million Naira) to one of the defendants’ account during his visit to   the land. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has commiserated with troops who were involved in a road traffic accident on Thursday 8 July 2021, at Garin Kuturu, along Maiduguri- Damaturu road, while responding to a  distress call.  Sadly, one of the Gun trucks conveying the troops skidded off the road and rammed into a road shoulder, causing the vehicle to somersault. Nine personnel who sustained varying degrees of injury in the accident have been evacuated and are currently receiving medical attention in a military medical facility.  No fatality was recorded in the accident.  Gen Yahaya lauded the troops for their swift response and urged them to be more circumspect during emergency operational responses. Spokesperson of CNSHPA, Mr Kyari Caleb, made this known while briefing newsmen on Friday in Lafia.
