  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Buhari to hand over transition documents to Tinubu on May 25 19 May 2023  President Muhammadu Buhari, will on Thursday, May 25th, officially handover Transition Documents to the incoming Administration led by President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  This is according to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha. At a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Mr Mustapha who doubles as Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council said the investiture program which is part of the schedule of activities marking the 2023 Presidential Inauguration will take place at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. He further noted that on the same day, President Buhari will confer National Honours on president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima. El-Rufai revokes rights of occupancy of ex-Gov Makarfi’s companies, landed properties 19 May 2023  Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has revoked the Right of Occupancy of nine companies belonging to the former Governor of the State, Senator Ahmed Muhammed Makarfi, as the properties have been slated for demolition. It was gathered that the notice of revocation and withdrawal of the right of occupancy was served to the officials of the affected companies on Thursday about 1pm. Specifically, the official notice of revocation was addressed to the Director of Cane Properties, Plot 11, Murtala Square, Doka, Alhaji Ibrahim Makarfi. When contacted, Makarfi who is a relation of the former governor told newsmen that they have contacted their lawyers to stop further action on the properties in question. “Our Lawyers will respond accordingly to the revocation and withdrawal of Right of Occupancy of the companies,” he said. Richard Montgomery is new British High Commissioner to Nigeria 19 May 2023  The UK government has appointed Dr Richard Montgomery as the country’s new High Commissioner to Nigeria.  Montgomery takes over from Ms Catriona Laing who recently concluded four years as High Commissioner to Nigeria. The UK High Commission in a statement issued in Abuja stated that Montgomery on Thursday presented his letter of credence to President Muhammadu Buhari. It stated that Montgomery reaffirmed commitment to strengthening the ties between the UK and Nigeria. “I look forward to working with the people of this great country, including those in government, in the private sector and in civil society. “I will do all I can to help build a more prosperous Nigeria and strengthen the partnership between our countries”, the statement quoted him as saying. Popular Akwanga Cleric, Ngharen Dies Aged 58  ***  A popular cleric and General-Overseer of Akwanga-based Kings Summit Church, Pastor Amin Zaigi Ngharen, is dead.  Ngharen also a lecturer with the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) died on Thursday May 18 after a brief illness. He was aged 58.  He left behind a wife, children and many relations.  The deceased cleric was born in Rija Community, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.  May his soul rest in peace, amen.

Scores Injured As Fulani Herdsmen, Farmers Clash In Duduguru  ***  A clash in Duduguru community, Obi Local Government Area between local farmers and marauding fulani herdsmen has left many injured in both sides.  The fulani herdsmen had invaded the community with their cattle and destroyed farms which led to the faceoff with owners on Thursday May 18.  The local farmers lamented that fulani herdsmen had resorted to grazing their cattle on their farms and destroying their means of livelihood.

The funeral and lying-in-state of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 cost the UK Government an estimated £161.7 million. According to the Evening Standard, the largest cost was reported by the Home Office at £73.7 million, followed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport at £57.4 million. The cost to the Scottish Government is estimated at £18.8 million, which is likely to have included events such as the lying-in-rest in Edinburgh following her death at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire. The figures have been published by the Treasury as part of a written statement to the UK Parliament and cover the period from her death on September 8 to her funeral in London on September 19. Downing Street said the cost was used to facilitate the smooth running of the event and ensure mourners from the UK and across the world could visit and take part safely. SP Hinduja, billionaire head of Britain's richest family, dies at 87 Srichand Hinduja, the billionaire patriarch of Britain’s richest family and chair of the globe-spanning Hinduja Group conglomerate, has died at the age of 87. Hinduja, known by his initials SP, was suffering from dementia. Court Convicts Yahoo Trainer,  One Other for Cybercrimes The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured the conviction of the duo of James Mark, aka Markscofield176 and Japhet Peter, aka Chafrin Bryan before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna on a one count charge bordering on internet fraud.  The convicts were arrested at different locations within Kaduna metropolis, for alleged cybercrime offences. One of the convicts,  James Mark allegedly runs a Yahoo Academy where he trains youngsters in the craft of trickery and fraud in cyberspace. They pleaded guilty to the charges.  The Prosecuting counsel, M.E Eimonye and M. Arumeni urged the court to convict them accordingly. Justice Bello convicted and sentenced them to two years imprisonment with an option of N 200,000 and 150,000 fine respectively.  Court Convict Yahoo Boy for Impersonation In Makurdi The Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, May 18, 2023, secured the conviction of one Samuel Kubiala Aboh, before Justice Abdul Dogo of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi on a one count charge bordering on impersonation.  Kubiala was arrested by operatives of the Commission on January 28, 2022 at Lafia, Nassarawa State in relation to internet fraud activities. He pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him. Upon his plea, the prosecution counsel A. S. Idris, prayed the court to convict and sentence him as charged. Consequently, Justice Dogo convicted and sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of N500,000 fine. He was ordered to forfeit his iPhone 11 Pro Max model MWFC2LL/A  and Tecno Spark 8c which he used to commit the offence to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

ACTDA Officials Clear UNIZIK Temporary Site Pedestrian Bridge Of Beggars, Roadside Traders Officials of Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA) have cleared beggars and roadside traders who constitute nuisance on the pedestrian bridge located at UNIZIK Temporary site along Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Awka. Speaking to the ABS, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mr. Ossy Onuko said that the exercise was to ensure sanity and allow seamless movement of people on the bridge. Mr. Onuko regretted that beggars and people display their goods on the bridge have been constituting nuisance on the bridge, as well as causing unnecessary human traffic on the bridge, thereby giving room for miscreants to cause problem on the bridge.
