  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. EFCC Arraigns Ondo State Speaker, Two Others for Fraud The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, arraigned the Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly,   Oleyelogun David Bamidele and two others before Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye of the Ondo State High Court for fraud. The two others are Felemu Olusegun Gudubankole, Chairman, House Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Oyadeji Oludeji, Secretary to the House Committee on Tertiary Institutions. They were arraigned by the Benin Zonal Command of the EFCC on a two count charge bordering on conspiracy and using their office to confer corrupt or unfair advantage on themselves. Oleyelogun, Gudubankole and Kayode are alleged to have conspired amongst themselves to engage in corrupt practices by receiving and retaining the sum of N2,440,000.00 which was meant for a seminar which they never attended. FG Earmarks $1.2M For Evacuation Of Nigerians From Sudan Federal Government has earmarked $1.2 million to procure 40 buses for the evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Sudan. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, told Journalists after the Federal Executive Council Meeting on Wednesday that the government will take advantage of the 72-hour ceasefire in Sudan to evacuate Nigerians trapped in the war ravaged country as arrangements have been reached with the Sudanese Government. During the evacuation, priority will not be accorded any diplomat, he said, adding that the government will prioritise women and children. No Nigerian had died in the war, he remarked, stressing that the first batch of Nigerians were already being evacuated to Egypt, where they will be airlifted to the country. Some Nigerians have already been transported to Saudi Arabia for airlifting, the Minister added.

WHO Discovers Another Contaminated Cough Syrup The World Health Organization, WHO has discovered a batch of contaminated India-made cough syrup has been found in the Marshall Islands and Micronesi. In a statement, the Organisation said tested samples of Guaifenesin TG syrup, made by Punjab-based QP Pharmachem Ltd contained an “unacceptable amount” of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol. It said both compounds are harmful to humans. According to WHO, the test was carried out by Australia’s drug regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Sudhir Pathak, the Managing Director of QP Pharmachem, said the company had exported the batch of 18,346 bottles to Cambodia after getting due regulatory permissions and not the Marshall Islands and Micronesia. “We did not send these bottles to the Pacific region, and they were not certified for use there. We don’t know under what circumstances and conditions these bottles reached the Marshall Islands and Micronesia,” he said. The latest alert co

Her family is seeking to raise above $40,000 via GoFundMe for her funeral. An American OnlyFans star and Kim Kardashian lookalike has died of a heart attack after she was recovering from a plastic surgery procedure. Christina Ashten Gourkani, 34, who was known as Ashten online, died in hospital on Thursday hours after having the surgery. Her heartbroken family shared the sad news online and opened up a GoFundMe page in a bid to help pay for her funeral next week. In a statement on the page, the family expressed their shock and sadness at the news, as well as a description of what had happened. In the ongoing onslaught against marauding bandits in the northwest, troops of joint task force (JTF) Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) have again recorded another success as they eliminated several bandits in a fresh encounter in Zamfara state. Source within the military revealed that the recent success was recorded when the troops were  on their routine patrol at Bakura general area of the state and had credible information about the bandits moving with large number of cattles which prompted the troops and swiftly mobilized to their routes to deny them freedom of action.  According to the source, a heavy gun battle ensued between the bandits and the troops near Galadima village in Damri district of Bakura local government area where 3 bandits were killed while others fled with several gunshot wounds and abandoned the rustled animals. Bayero University Kano Loses Registrar The Registrar of Bayero University, Kano, (BUK), Malam Jamilu Ahmed Salim is dead. The University Director, Public Affairs, Malam Lamara Garba told Radio Nigeria in Kano that the Registrar died in the early hours of Wednesday. He said the funeral prayer for Jamilu Salim took place by 10.00am, at BUK Central Mosque, New Campus. Jamilu Salim who was 60 years old was buried at Dandolo cemetery in Kano metropolis. Alleged $368,698 Fraud: Absence of Defence Counsel Stalls Trial of American Businessman, Marco Ramirez in Lagos The trial of one Marco Antonio Ramirez, an American businessman,  for an alleged $368,698.24 fraud before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos could not continue today, April 26, 2023,  due to the absence of the defence counsel, Lawal Pedro, SAN. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is prosecuting Ramirez on an amended nine-count charge alongside his companies: USA NOW LLC, Eagle Ford Instalodge Group LP, and USA NOW Energy Capital Group LP. Bet9ja Woes: Court Convicts Mother, Son for False Information The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured a conviction of one Oluwayemisi Samuel and her Son, Joshua Samuel, before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court on separate one count charge each bordering on false information. Oluwayemisi and Joshua squandered the sum of N5,600,000 on sport betting  and caused a false petition to be sent to the EFCC, alleging that the money was fraudulently withdrawn from their Opay account to a sport betting account without their authorisation by an unknown individual. They pleaded guilty to the charges. In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel N. Salele urged the court to convict them accordingly. Justice Bello however convicted and sentenced both defendants to 7 years imprisonment each with an option of N 150,000 fine. More photos below.

MAFINGA WOMAN KILLS HER HUSBAND FOR REFUSING TO GIVE HER K300 A 52-year-old man of Mafinga, Muchinga Province, has been hacked to death by his wife after he failed to give her a K300 she demanded for while they were drinking alcohol in the house. Derrick Kaonga, 52, of Kaseya village, was allegedly hacked by wife Grace Musukwa, 46, on Sunday around 23:00 hours. Kaonga sustained deep cuts on the neck, chin and right hand. According to information gathered by the police, Mr Kaonga  last month travelled to Kachindu village, where he was hired to cut timber and paid K1300 when he returned, he gave K1000  to his wife and remained with K300. This annoyed the wife who wanted all the money. After a heated argument, she picked an axe and hit the man who died instantly. As he was dying, she searched her pocket and got the K300 she wanted.😭😭. EFCC Appeals Ruling On 14 Properties, N400m Linked To Kogi Gov, Yahaya Bello The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has filed an appeal, challenging the Wednesday, April 26, 2023 ruling of Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos that struck out its suit seeking the forfeiture of 14 properties as well as the sum of N400m linked to the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, citing his immunity from prosecution under the 1999 constitution. In the notice of appealed filed today, the Commission averred that Justice Oweibo erred in law when he struck out the suit as the immunity conferred on the Respondent  against any civil or criminal proceedings during his incumbency as a governor of Kogi State does not extend to properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime traced to him;  that the court erred and occasioned a miscarriage of justice when it refused to bind itself with the decision of the Court of Appeal in EFCC V Fayose (2018) LPELR 44
