  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  Family of 7 dead after eating cassava meal in Sokoto A family of 7 died after eating cassava delicacy at Runjin Barmo village of Kajiji District in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The village head, Muhammadu Modi Magajin Runjin Barmo, who received the state’s Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe and other officials on a condolence visit, said the incident happened on Wednesday. He said the victims were Malam Abubakar, his wife, A’ishatu and their five children. He thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his concern. In her remarks, the commissioner said they were at the village to assess the cause of the incident for onward communication to the state government for necessary action. She said the ministry would take samples from one teenager who happened to be alive after eating the suspected meal.

 Cannabis with an estimated value of more than €16m (£14m) has been seized in County Wexford. Revenue officers and gardaí (Irish police) discovered the drugs on Saturday after a unaccompanied freight unit, which had disembarked a ferry from Bilbao, Spain, was searched at Rosslare Europort. About 783kg of herbal cannabis and 70kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of €16.09m (£13.8m) was seized in the operation. Gardaí said no arrests have been made, but the drugs are now being analysed and investigations are ongoing.

 Mississippi attorney (pictured below) arrested for smuggling contraband into jail while claiming to meet with clients.  Daniel Dale, a Mississippi attorney, was arrested and charged with conspiracy and introducing contraband. These charges come after video showed him giving an incarcerated "client" a cell phone and a brown envelope from inside of a silver briefcase.  When he was taken into custody as he attempted to consult with a "client" he was found to have 2 cell phones, 4 vacuum sealed bags of Marijuana, 4 packs of cigarettes (also vacuum sealed), cigar wraps, and digital scales inside of the same briefcase. There are no reports on whether or not he has bonded out or when his first court appearance is.

 The Sangamon County Sheriff, Jack Campbell, has resigned.  He expressed remorse for Sonya Massey and her family. He stated he tried to be transparent but those efforts were to no avail. I don't know every "tiny" thing that happened but I do know the most important things. I know for sure Sonya should still be with us, and never forgotten.  I will be a reporter and be honest with my readers as always. However as just a human, I have to admit that body cam footage has replayed in my head every single day. I see horrible videos and then evaluate them for a living. But that video was difficult.  FOUR PEOPLE PERISH IN A BUS & TAXI CRASH ON THE N1  MUSINA : Four lives have been lost on Limpopo roads, this in the Vhembe District on Sunday morning.  This after four people have been killed when the taxi they were traveling in collided with a bus on the N1 near Baobab tollgate outside Musina.  Three other passengers have been injured.  Preliminary investigations indicate that the taxi was trying to avoid another vehicle when it swerved towards on-coming traffic, and collided with the bus.  Ondo farmer killed after receiving compensation for damaged crops A 36-year-old farmer, Sunday Ayenis, from Uba Oka in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area, was killed just days after herders compensated him for damaging his crops. Villagers alleged that the herders were responsible for the killing, saying that Ayenis was found dead in his farm with his intestines exposed. It was gathered that his dog, which had accompanied him to the farm, was also killed and found lying beside him. Sources suggest the attack occurred because the herders were dissatisfied with the amount of compensation they had paid. The compensation was reportedly negotiated by security agents and community elders. According to a statement dated August 7, signed by Omolara Omotunde Duke, CBN’s director of the financial markets department, the apex bank said the auction aimed to reduce demand pressure in the FX market and promote price discovery. The CBN said the transaction was conducted through a retail Dutch auction system (rDAS). According to the apex bank, while bids valued at $876.26 million from 26 banks qualified, bids from six banks were disqualified. The CBN said four banks missed the deadline and two did not provide bids in their submitted templates. The incident occurred at the early hours of Saturday. It was gathered that a similar incident occurred 10 years ago when the church was set ablaze by some unknown arsonists who had warned that the church building should not be completed. A video of the incident was shared by a Nigerian, Chude Nnamdi on his X handle on Sunday. “This lady destroyed her husband’s international passport on their arrival. Omo,” Chude Nnamdi @Chude_ wrote on X. The woman didn’t state the reason for her strange action. However, the husband remained calm and later picked up the pieces of the passport from the floor. The post did not disclose the particular Nigerian airport where the incident occurred.  LASTMA, FRSC COMMIT TO STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIP ON TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN LAGOS The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have agreed to strengthen their partnership in managing traffic across Lagos State. This agreement was announced recently by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki during a courtesy visit by the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonathan Owoade and his team to LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos. Mr. Bakare-Oki welcomed the initiative and reiterated LASTMA's commitment to collaborating with the FRSC on traffic decongestion, public enlightenment, and the enforcement of traffic regulations. He expressed confidence that the partnership would bring about positive outcomes for road users in Lagos.
