 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt's Zonal Office on Monday, June 24 , 2019 arraigned Aretuemhen Frank (a.k.a Williams Rodgers) before Justice M. L Abubakar of the Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on four- count charge bordering on false pretences, impersonation, possession of scam documents and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 6 of the A dvance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act. Specifically, Frank was docked for allegedly defrauding an American lady, Thorman Benson the sum of $12000 (Twelve Thousand American Dollars) in series of online dating deals. BENUE REJECTS RUGA SETTLEMENTS FOR HERDSMEN BY FG.#PRESS RELEASE.

      It has become necessary to make the position of the government and people of Benue State abundantly clear on the Ruga settlements for herdsmen being implemented by the Federal Government across the states including Benue. A few weeks ago, the Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture with his team in Benue State informed officials of the State Ministry of Agriculture that he had received directives from the Ministry's headquarters Abuja to establish Ruga which means 'Fulani settlement' in parts of the State. The Director stated that the local government areas selected for the Ruga settlements were Otukpo, Tarka and Ukum. The Permanent Secretary, Benue State Ministry of Agriculture drew the attention of the Director and his team to the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017 being implemented in the state.         The enhancement of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airlift capability and operational effectiveness to confront various security challenges in the country is part of the cardinal focus of the present NAF Leadership. Pursuant to this imperative, the NAF has, for the first time in its history, successfully completed the in-country Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) of a C-130H aircraft, NAF 917. This is taking place few days after receiving three L-39ZA aircraft that were reactivated in-country to enhance the number of serviceable fighter jets in its inventory. The acceptance ceremony for NAF 917, which took place at the 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot (631 ACMD), Ikeja, Lagos today, 24 June 2019, also witnessed the flag-off of the PDM of another C-130H aircraft, NAF 913.       Lagos Governor’s office has alerted members of the public to be weary of some people who may fraudulently use the office to commit criminal act. This security alert came to the fore, over the weekend after a middle-aged woman was arrested following an intelligence on the usage of the Governor’s office to seek visas for some members of the public. The suspect (name withheld), via an e-mail sent to the Embassy of Italy in Lagos allegedly posed as an official of Lagos State government and sought the country’s visas for some unsuspecting Nigerians. The embassy however wrote to the Governor’s office to authenticate the claims, which were later found to be false. The letter from the Italian embassy led to further investigation and her subsequent arrest and interrogation. Although she denied the allegation claiming that her email was hacked, the Lagos State Governor’s office has sent the matter to the appropriate security agencies for appropriate action.        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Monday, June 24, 2019, arraigned the trio of Raphael Ishado, Jacob Sunday and Raheem Shanu before Justice Chuka A. Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a five-count charge bordering on possession of 10 pieces of counterfeit N1000 (One Thousand Naira )notes. One of the counts reads: "That you, Raphael Ishado, Jacob Sunday and Raheem Shanu, sometime in April 2019 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired amongst yourselves to deal in 10 pieces of N1000 notes, knowing it to be counterfeit and there by committed an offence contrary to Section 6 (2) (b) of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provisions) Act. CAP C35, Vol.4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and punishable under Section 4 (1) of the same Act.” The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
