  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  A Texas man was sentenced to 70 years in prison Wednesday, April 12, after he was found guilty of spitting at Lubbock police officers during an arrest last May. Larry Pearson, 36, was arrested in May 2022, for domestic violence after a victim flagged down an officer in northeast Lubbock, prosecutor Jessica Gorman said. The victim told police that Pearson had hit her several times and that he had a gun. Gorman said that firearm turned out to be an airsoft gun. A police report at the time stated the victim had “multiple visible injuries” on her face.  Gorman said after Pearson was taken into custody, he was upset the victim was not arrested instead. That’s when he started kicking at the doors in the officer’s vehicle. When the officers opened the door to tell him to stop, Gorman said he spit at both officers. Corruption in Power Sector affects Economic Growth – ICPC Chairman The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, OFR, has reiterated the need for agencies in the power sector to stand up against corruption, saying that the menace in the sector affects economic development. Ghana Makes History As First To Approve New Malaria Vaccine From Oxford Ghana has become the first country in the world to approve a new malaria vaccine from Oxford University. The vaccine called R21 appears to be hugely effective in stark contrast to previous ventures in the same field. Trial data from preliminary studies in Burkina Faso showed the R21 vaccine was up to 80 per cent effective when given as three initial doses, and a booster a year later, BBC reports. Children under the age of three years old are in line to benefit from the vaccine. Ghana’s drug regulators have assessed the final trial data on the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness, which is not yet public, and have decided to use it. The World Health Organisation is also considering approving the vaccine. Malaria kills about 620,000 people each year, most of them young children. It has been a massive, century-long, scientific undertaking to develop a vaccine that protects the body from the malaria parasite, BBC said. I

Suspected Cultist Shot 3 Persons Dead, Kidnap 2 In Ahoada Community Gunmen suspected to be cultists on Wednesday (April 12,2023) invaded Ubeta community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State and killed three persons . The killing comes barely seventy two hours after two Shop owners, Chimezie Nagbo and one other was kidnapped in the community on Monday (April,10,2023). Chief Million Jonathan, Paramount Ruler of Ubeta community in a telephone interview with our reporter confirmed the incidents. Chief Jonathan disclosed that not all the three persons killed are cultists. KDSG Security Update: Thursday 13th April 2023.  Troops intercept large quantity of ammunition in Birnin Gwari LGA.  - Rounds were being supplied to bandits.  - Courier in custody for investigation  In another significant breakthrough, troops of Operation Forest Sanity have intercepted a large quantity of ammunition being conveyed to bandits by a courier around Polewire in Birnin Gwari LGA.  According to a report forwarded to the Kaduna State Government, the troops followed up on credible intelligence around gunrunning activities, and in the course of diligent checks stopped a suspicious-looking vehicle within the location of interest.  A search of the intercepted vehicle - a black Toyota Corolla - revealed more than 2,000 rounds of various grades of ammunition, concealed in different parts of the car.  After a thorough search of the vehicle, the following precise quantities were recovered:  - 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition - 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition - 139 roun

Jamie Foxx hospitalized after suffering medical emergency Hollywood actor, Jamie Foxx was on Tuesday, April 11, taken to a hospital in Atlanta after suffering an undisclosed medical emergency.    A statement released by his daughter, Corinne Foxx, says the oscar award-winning actor had suffered a 'medical complication' that required him to be taken to the hospital. Foxx, 55, had been filming ‘Back In Action’ in Atlanta with actress, Cameron Diaz, as recently as Monday.   The statement added that Foxx is now ‘on his way to recovery.' The nature of the illness was however not disclosed. ‘’We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday [Tuesday]. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. Police arrest tech exec for murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee Police in San Francisco have arrested a tech executive for the stabbing murder of Cash App founder, Bob Lee. The father of two, 43, was stabbed just after 2:30 a.m. April 4 in the ritzy neighborhood of Rincon Hill and Lee allegedly knew his killer, Mission Local reported. Police are yet to confirm the identity for the suspect, but Mission Local reports he is a fellow tech executive who lives in the Bay Area. It is unclear if the man attended the same tech conference Lee was in town for, but the pair were seen in a car together at around 2.30am, moments before the stabbing. They had some kind of confrontation that led to the attack, according to police sources.
