  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has condemned inducement of voters by politicians during elections, saying it is another form of corruption. Magu said the monetization of electoral process must be frowned on by Nigerians because it could impact negatively on the future of the country. Speaking during an interactive session with media executives at the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal office on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Magu stated that “We are again at the cusp of history.        Justice Valentine Ashi of a Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja, on December 4, 2018, ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of States Security Service and all other security agencies to apprehend and arrest a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison Madueke within 72 hours. The order was made, following a motion ex par te made before the court by counsel to the EFCC, Msuur Denga, praying for an order of the court, to issue a warrant of arrest against Madueke, to enable the Commission apprehend and arraign her for alleged financial crimes in Nigeria. The EFCC investigated the former minister along with Jide Omokore, a former Chairman, Atlantic Energy Drilling Company, following a petition dated October 2, 2013, from Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, bordering on money laundering and official corruption.       President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, in OÅ›wiÄ™cim, Poland, where he paid tribute to Holocaust victims.      According to sources '' A popular musician, Small Doctor, whose real name is Adekunle Temitope, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for unlawful possession of a firearm and for allegedly threatening to shoot a police officer. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, revealed this on Monday while parading the musician alongside three other suspects. Mr Imohimi said, “It was alleged that some unknown men, four of them, in an unregistered green SUV had brought out a gun and threatened a policeman that if he does not leave the road, they will shoot him.” He explained that believing that the accused were armed robbers, he sent out his officials who eventually arrested them. He said the accused were brought to the police headquarters for interrogation. Abebe is being prosecuted for an alleged $4m fraud. Abebe is facing trial over a four-count charge of forgery, fabricating evidence, using fabricated evidence and attempt to pervert the course of justice preferre d against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. In the application made orally, Abebe, through his counsel, E.D. Onyeke, sought the release of the passport to enable him travel to the United Kingdom, U.K. Abebe’s lawyer told the court that his client lost his mother last night in the UK; hence, the request for the release of the passport.     Yesterday Monday, some group of young men who described themselves as Jemgbagh youths carried out an unlawful act in Gboko Local government area of Benue state where they indiscriminately shaved hairs and bearded men they assume where cultists.Sources gathered that the youths were going round with weapons like cutlasses and clubs, moving in a bus inscribed with Flight Transport limited, where they threatened the prevailing peace in Gboko as they continued in their manhunt attacking people keeping hair and forcefully shaving them away. According to them, it was a   cultists hunt and the situation almost turned messy thereby creating fears and tension.The young men were said to be chased on sight, and any person who was wearing any afro styled hair  was forcefully shaved, Ukan Kurugh alleges.
