 Noise pollution: Lagos seals five churches, 19 hotels The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has temporarily shut down no fewer than five churches and 19 hotels over noise pollution between March 23 and April 26  Calculations by our correspondent also showed that no fewer than four markets and shopping complexes were also shut down over noise pollution and other environmental infractions. Carolyn Bryant Donham, the white woman who accused black teenager Emmett Till of making improper advances at her, leading to him being lynched, has d!ed at the age of 88.  Donham, who had been battling cancer, died Tuesday night, April 25, in hospice care in Westlake, Louisiana, according to a d£ath report filed Thursday, April 27, in Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office in Louisiana.  Till’s kidnapping and k!lling became a catalyst for the civil rights movement when his mother insisted on an open-casket funeral in their hometown of Chicago after his brutalized body was pulled from a river in Mississippi.  Till traveled from Chicago to visit relatives in Mississippi in August 1955. Donham — then named Carolyn Bryant — accused him of making improper advances on her at a grocery store in the small community of Money.  The Rev. Female Company Executive Jailed 3 Years for N4m Forex Scam The Abuja Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 27, 2023, secured the conviction of one Fatima Suleiman before Justice J.O. Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court, Apo-Abuja. Suleiman, 56 and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Jamilma Multilinks Logistics Services Limited, was convicted on a one count charge that bordered on dishonestly converting the sum of N4, 000,000 (Four Million Naira) which was given to  her for conversion  to United States of American Dollars by one Chigozie Ezeagu. She had pleaded not guilty upon arraignment leading to her full trial. Justice Onwuegbuzie found the defendant guilty of the charge preferred against her, convicted and sentenced her to three years imprisonment without an option of fine. The convict is also to pay the the sum of N3, 000,000 (Three Million Naira) in restitution to Ezeagu.

EFCC Arrests 25 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Akure Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on  Thursday, April 27, 2023, arrested 25 suspected internet fraudsters in Akure, Ondo State. The suspects were arrested in an early morning operation following actionable intelligence on their alleged criminal activities. Yahoo Boy Bags One Year Term for love Scam in Kaduna The Kaduna Zonal Command has secured the conviction of one Joshua Audu before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court on a one count charge bordering on Love scam Joshua, who was arrested by the Kaduna State Vigilance Service, KADVS at Brooklyn Hotel, Narayi Barnawa Kaduna on suspicion of involvement in cybercrime and handed over to the Commission for further investigation, allegedly used the social media platform, Google Chat to defraud victims whom he professed love to. He received money and gift cards as proceeds of his illicit act.  He pleaded guilty upon arraignment, leading to his conviction and sentencing to one year imprisonment or a fine of N 150,000(One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira). April 27, 2023      UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has written a letter to Nigerian president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the Monday, May 29 inauguration. In the letter seen by TheCable, Sunak said he “looks forward to working” with Tinubu, who won the February 25 presidential election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sunak said he hopes to welcome Tinubu to London in April 2024 for the second Africa Investment Summit. He said the summit would be a “key moment” to strengthen UK-Nigerian business partnerships “in order to create jobs and growth, increase bilateral trade and investment, and support your aim of boosting Nigeria’s export competitiveness”. According to The African Report, the story “is not based on reality” and it perfectly illustrates the results of an MIT study published in 2018, which found that fake news spreads faster than real information.   Investigative journalist Rym Bousmid dug into the rumour and how it started before concluding that it had no element of truth.   “It started with a tweet published by the Ivorian journal First Mag. Hisbah arrests 11 minors at leisure park in Kebbi 11 minors have been arrested by Hisbah operatives at a leisure park in Birnin Kebbi the Capital of Kebbi state. Hisbah Director, Muhammad Sulyman, said the minors include both males and females, ages 14 to 15 years who were caught engaging in different anti-social behaviour allegedly inimical to their well-being and which is also abhorred in Islamic religion. The Timing for Oil Subsidy Removal is Not Ripe—NEC The National Economic Council NEC says that the timing for the removal of oil subsidy is not ripe but preparation work has to be done in consultation with the states and other key stakeholders.  The Minister of Finance, budget and national planning,Zainab Ahmed stated this while briefing state house correspondents on the outcome of the NEC meeting presided over by vice president, professor Yemi Osinbajo. MAN DROWNS IN KANO WELL.(PHOTO).

Man Drowns in Kano Well  Residents of Tukwi village Dambatta local government area, were thrown into deep mourning, following the demise of a 23-year-old man, Anas Ya'u, after drowning in a well. The Public Relations Officer of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Kano. He explained that, the agency received an emergency call from Sani Salisu that a man had accidentally fell into a well. He stressed that a rescue team was quickly moblized from Danbatta local government fire station. Saminu maintained that, reports indicate that, the victim Ya'u fell into the well while fetching water to help his friend to build a house. "We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 09:53 a.m "  The public relations officer said, the victim was however, brought out of the well unconscious, and later confirmed dead by health officials.  He said, the corpse has been handed over to the Ward Head of Tukwi, Alhaji Muntari Ham

The minister of water resources, Engineer Sulaiman Hussaini Adamu, made the indication during the launching  of the N14 billion Gari irrigation project. According to him, the dam situated between Kano and Jigawa states, would assist irrigation farmers in Dambatta, Makoda, Gari, Kazaure and Roni local government areas. Engineer Hussaini Adamu said, the Dam, would serve over two thousand hecters of irrigation land, 44kg bug  canals, 6 tanks and feeder roads. WE' RE BATTLING WITH POLLUTION, MAKURDI COMMUNITIES CRY OUT 27th April, 2023    Locals living near an ethanol-producing plant in Makurdi have said their communities are besieged by environmental hazards as a result of the activities of the company. The plant, Pure Bio-Tech Company Limited, situated at kilometre 18, Gboko Road, Makurdi, the Benue State capital, uses cassava as its raw material and belongs to the chemical and pharmaceutical sector. But the manner in which it disposes of the waste from the ethanol production process is of major concern to the communities which are within a three-kilometre radius of it. Chief Terfa Gbam, a village head in the area who spoke with Daily Trust on the phone, on behalf of Abua, Angbaaye and Akile communities, said the waste which is a blackened sludge, is discharged into River Benue, which is a source of drinking and bathing water, and livelihood for the communities’ residents. April 27, 2023 Airpeace today flew the Inaugural flight to the newly built Ebonyi State International Airport which has been renamed after President Muhammadu Buhari by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State. NAFDAC Alerts Nigerians About Killer Cough Syrup  April 26, 20230 The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday in Abuja alerted Nigerians about a killer cough syrup, NATURCOLD. Its director-general, Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that the cough syrup already caused the death of six children in Cameroon. Ms Adeyeye stated that the cough syrup was not in NAFDAC’s database and advised importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain. She called on importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to avoid importing, distributing, selling, and consuming the substandard syrup. “All medical products must be obtained from authorised/licensed suppliers. A Kenyan Instagram influencer has d!ed while allegedly trafficking drugs.   According to reports from the country's media, Brenda Akinyi Ochola, better known as Brendalicious, d!ed in Malaysia when the c@caine she was allegedly trafficking burst in her stomach.   She allegedly started acting weird when she arrived at the airport in Malaysia and this attracted security guards.   She is said to have fallen to the ground and started foaming from the mouth.    Efforts to save her proved abortive.   According to unconfirmed reports, 34 capsules of illicit drugs were found in her stomach. Brenda's social media posts documented her regular travels, lavish vacations, and luxurious lifestyle.   Following news of her d€ath, social media users took to various platforms to react.
