      Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the amended Electoral Act is a threat to the nation's existence as it will generate deadly political tension in 2019 . The governor also declared that the whole essence of not signing the Electoral Act by President Muhammadu Buhari is for him to rig the 2019 elections. He spoke at the Government House Port Harcourt on Tuesday during the visit of the Anglican Bishop of Niger Delta North, Rt Rev Wisdom Ihunwo.       A member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Murtala, representing Musawa/Matazu federal constituency of Katsina State, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The lawmaker made this known in a letter read on  the floor of the House by the speaker, Yakubu Dogara, during plenary on Tuesday.Mr Murtala did not state the reason for his defection.He becomes the first elected official from President Muhammadu Buhari’s home-state of Katsina to dump the ruling party for another party. The APC and PDP have lost a couple of their members in the past few months to other parties. This cannot be unconnected to the fallout of the recently concluded primary elections held across the country.

       President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Abuja said Nigerian government remains deeply grateful to the government and people of Switzerland for their support in resuscitating the economy, especially the return of illegally stolen funds. Receiving Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, Mr George Steiner, at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari said the return of stolen funds and interventions in the crisis in the North East further indicate the Swiss government’s commitment to the development of Nigeria. “We are grateful to the Swiss government for allowing illegally stolen funds to be brought back to Nigeria,’’ he said. The President noted that the facilitating roles the Swiss government had been playing in the North East, particularly in reaching out to Internally Displaced Persons, had been most helpful, adding that bilateral relations between both countries will continue to be strengthened. Residents of Ekotedo area of Ibadan metropolis were reportedly woken up from sleep by the distress cry of a middle-aged woman, Martha, being beaten by her husband, who allegedly caught her with her female lover in a hotel. According to Reporters, the couple, who are based in Benin City, Edo State, were reportedly invited to Ibadan by her step-father for a discussion over a misunderstanding between them, which was amicably settled.      The Chairman of the North-West National Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has said that the post-primaries disaffection among members of the party is not intractable. Ajimobi, who is the governor of Oyo State, disclosed this in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, on Monday. He therefore appealed to the aggrieved party members in the North-West zone to take advantage of the committee’s reconciliation meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, in Kaduna, Kaduna State.
