Nigerian Army arrests three suspected rail track vandals in Nasarawa Troops from 4 Special Forces of the Nigerian Army Doma, Nasarawa State, have arrested three suspects for rail track vandalism at the Kwarra community in Keana Local Government Area of the state.  The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Maj. NAF helicopter on mission crashes in Niger The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed one of its aircraft crashed in Niger State on Monday, August 14. The Air Force said the aircraft was on a casualty evacuation mission when the crash happened. A statement on Monday by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet said the aircraft departed Zungeru Primary School en route to Kaduna but was later discovered to have crashed in a village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger.  Nigeria Would Have Been Affected If We Didn't Take Over - Niger Coupists General Abdourahmane Tchiani, leader of the Niger junta, has said the military take over in his country saved Nigeria of an imminent disaster. According to Sheik Bala Lau, Chairman of Jam’atul Izalatu Bida Waikamatu Sunnah, Tchiani said this during a meeting that a Nigerian delegation of clerics had with the junta in Niamey, Niger’s capital, on Saturday. Daily Trust had reported how Islamic scholars who met President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday headed for Niger. According to Sheik Lau, Tchiani claimed the coup was well intended, adding that “they struck to starve off an imminent threat that would have affected not only Niger Republic but also Nigeria”.

 Sexual assault: UNICAL law students protest against law Professor  Cyril Ndifon, UNICAL's first Professor of Law, was in August 2015 suspended by the Institution, after been accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old 400-level student in his office. Ndifon sued the Institution and lost the case at the Calabar Division of the National Industrial Court on September 21, 2016. Attempts by Ndifon to stop the ICPC from the case also met a brick wall as Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the suit he filed on March 02, 2017. Surprisingly, he was reinstated to his position as Faculty Dean in December last year. Nigeria emerges third best English-speaking nation in Africa Nigeria has emerged as third best in Africa and 28th globally in the EF English Proficiency Index ranking. The ranking was for countries classified as non-native English speaking. Twenty African countries appeared in the ranking which was released in November 2022 with South Africa ranking 12th globally and first in Africa while Kenya ranks 20th globally and 2nd in Africa. Others on the list in Africa are Ghana (41st globally and 4th in Africa), Uganda (55th globally and 5th in Africa) amongst others. The Netherlands stands at the number one global spot while Singapore takes the second position. The Education First English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) attempts to rank countries by the equity of English language skills amongst those adults who took the EF test. The EF EPI 2022 edition was calculated using test data from 2.1 million test takers in 2021.\ One hundred and eleven countries and territories appear in the 2022 edition
