At least 50 people were killed when a bus travelling from the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, to Kisumu, in the west, veered off the road, police say. The bus was overloaded and speeding, a survivor told local media. Police said the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged down a slope at a notorious accident black spot. The roof was ripped off. Twelve women and seven children were among those killed in the crash on Wednesday morning. The bus was  carrying at least 70 passengers, some standing , a male survivor told The Standard. He said the driver was not following traffic rules but that he chose not to raise his concerns because the bus crew would have beaten him up. He described the bus crew as "very arrogant". The government agency in charge of road safety said the bus did not have a license to travel at night. The accident happened at 05:00 local time (02:00 GMT) in Fort Ternan town, 80km (50 miles) away from Kisumu, local media reported. ...

Adebowale Akinsanya had said one major challenges to infrastructural development in the State is litigation by some residents, which has greatly hampered the rapid development of infrastructure across Lagos.        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has vowed to ensure that the Chairman, Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, Innocent Chukwuma is arrested to face fraud charges in court. The Commission gave the assurance today, after Justice Olusola Williams of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, struck out the case of fraud it instituted against Chukwuma. The Judge struck out the case after the EFCC failed to produce Chukwuma in court to face trial. Chuwuma and his company, Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, were to be arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy to obtain by false pretences, obtaining by false pretence, stealing and forgery. The defendants allegedly committed the offences between 2009 and July 2011 in Lagos.
