 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, arraigned the trio of Gbadegun Isaiah Abiodun, Oladipo Oladapo and Afolabi Peter Albert, before Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of N177, 300,000(One Hundred and Seventy-seven Million, Three H undred Thousand Naira).  The defendants, who are staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Osun State, were alleged to have conspired amongst themselves to receive a cash payment of a sum of N177, 300,000 from a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, on the eve of the 2015 general election, without going through a financial institution.One of the counts reads: "That you, Gbadegun Isaiah Abiodun, Oladipo Oladapo and Afolabi Peter Albert and others at large, on or about the 30th day of March 2015 in Nigeria, within the jur

     Nigerian groups or individuals that have objections to the Nigerian Press Council Amendment Bill have been told to follow due process rather than throw mud at the government using the media. Speaking to State House correspondents on the controversy surrounding the proposed amendment of the law sponsored as a Private Member’s Bill, a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, pointed out that all the attacks against the government as a result of the bill were misdirected, since it has nothing at all to do with the Executive. “This is a privately-sponsored bill. President Muhammadu Buhari is not involved,” Shehu said. LAGOS RELEASES N466.86M AS PENSION TO 187 RETIREES.

      The Lagos State Government has again credited   N 466.855m to the Retirement Savings Accounts of 187 of its retirees, including those of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), under the Contributory Pension Scheme for the month of July 2018. The State Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson-Oke, who disclosed this recently, stated that in spite of the scarcity of funds, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode prioritises the payment of pensioners by making sure funds are released every month for payment of their entitlements. He said the present administration had so far paid more than  N 38.5 billion to 9,401 retirees.       Lagos State Government has airlifted intending Christian pilgrims to the holy land of Jerusalem for the 2018 Holy Pilgrimage. The pilgrims, who departed from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Sunday, are expected to perform the necessary spiritual exercise within ten days and return to the State on Tuesday, 7th of August, 2018. The Nigerian Army has assured the Vigilante/Hunters Association in Borno state of its readiness to collaborate with the Association in the ongoing counter insurgency operations in the North East. 2.
