  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.   Alleged Forgery of Medical Report: EFCC Presents First Witness against Fani-Kayode The EFCC on February 23, 2022 presented its first witness against Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, who is standing trial before Justice O.O. Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos for offences bordering on use of false documents, use of fabricated evidence, procuring execution of documents by false pretence, and fabricating evidence.  Fani-Kayode who is also being prosecuted by the EFCC for an alleged N4.9billion fraud before Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, is facing 12 counts before Justice Abike-Fadipe, brought against him by the EFCC, following his alleged use of forged medical report(s), which he tendered at the Federal High Court to justify his absence in Court.

Former Bauchi Deputy Director of Lands Jailed for Land Scam Justice Abubarka Muazu of Bauchi State High Court, on February 21, 2022 convicted and sentenced a former Deputy Director of Planning in Bauchi State Ministry of Land and Survey, Ibrahim Aliyu to twenty seven months imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretences and cheating. He was convicted following a two- count charge brought against him by the Gombe Zonal Command of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.  Aliyu sometime in May 2015 dishonestly induced one Mustapha Bala to deliver to him the sum of One Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira (N1, 100,000) for sale of a plot of land situated at BSADP Quarters, Bauchi which belonged to His Royal Highness, Usman Bilyaminu Usman, the Emir of Dass, without his consent. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced accordingly to three months with option of N50,000.00. (Fifty Thousand Naira only) fine on count one and two years imprisonment with option of N100,000

NDLEA destroys 255 hectares of cannabis farms, arrests 13 in Ondo Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in a major operation that lasted seven days, have destroyed a total of 255 hectares of cannabis farms spread across five local government areas of Ondo state. In addition, 13 suspects were arrested and 250 kilograms of cannabis seeds as well as 63.85kg cannabis weeds were recovered during the operation deep inside five major forests: Omolowo/Powerline forest; Ipele forest; Ala forest; Ogbese forest; Utte and Okuluse forest that spread across five local council areas of the state. The exercise codenamed Operation Abub’, which began at Ogbese forest on Tuesday 15th February lasted till Monday 21st Feb, 2022. Imo State Commissioner Dumps Uzodinma, APC, Joins PDP The Imo state immediate past commissioner for foreign affairs, Fabian Ihekweme, on Wednesday dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The defection took place at the Kanu Nwankwo stadium in Owerri, during the reception organised by the PDP, to welcome home the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samdaddy Anyanwu, along with the National leadership led by the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu. Also received officially to the PDP, was another top stakeholder, and a former Chairman of the PDP, in the state, Charles Ezekwem, who abandoned the APC, and returned to the PDP, among other hundreds of supporters.

Policeman Accidently Shoots Colleague Dead On Their Way To Collect N20k Bribe There was a pandemonium Monday as an unidentified policeman attached to the Anti-Kidnap Squad, Delta state police command, killed his colleague while following a suspect to his house to collect N20,000 bribe. The tragic incident occurred around 6:00 pm by ADP along Ibusa Road at Ibusa in the Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state. Narrating the incident to SaharaReporters, the suspect who was allegedly being harassed by the policemen, identified as Nicholas, said, on Monday, he drove from Ibusa to Asaba to look for fuel to buy following the scarcity of fuel in his area. "As I was going back home at about 5:30 pm, I met a team of policemen along the Ibusa Road, Asaba, and they stopped me for a search. Buhari Postpones Signing Of Amended Electoral Bill Till Friday  President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the re-worked Electoral Act Amendment Bill on Friday, February 25.   A source close to the Presidency, who had earlier indicated that the President would assent to the bill on Wednesday, confirmed the new date to Channels Television. There has been condemnation from several quarters over the Buhari presidency’s reluctance to sign the bill.

SANWO-OLU UNVEILS ADOPT-A-BIN PROGRAMME WITH 40,000 BINS Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled the Adopt-a-Bin programme with an initial 40,000 standard bins deployed to households and commercial entities. Sanwo-Olu spoke during the launch of the programme at Simpson Transfer Loading Station on Lagos Island, saying the gospel of waste sorting at source is now gaining ground as individual pickers of recyclable items are increasing by the day and recycling firms springing up. According to the Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello, "Today, we are at the threshold of another phase in our Lagos Recycle Initiative, as we launch standard waste bins for the “Adopt-A-Bin” project, which is LAWMA’s latest baby. The bins which come in two colours, the green for general waste and the blue for recyclable items, are for containerising waste".

Missing Person Alert Mr Daniel Sunday Ifeaghandu, from Umu Arize Umubele village, Awka, is missing. He went to work at Mgbakwu on Thursday, 17th of February 2022 for a borehole job. He was sent to go and collect a tool for the job around Amaku hospital, Amaka and that's the last time he was seen. His phone number is still ringing but he is not picking. Over 1.7 Million Persons In The South East Now Seek HIV/AIDS Treatment As At The End Of 2021. Over one million, seven hundred thousand persons now seek HIV/AIDS treatment. This is as at end of December, 2021. This is comparable to about six hundred and seventy thousand persons in 2015, a thirty-seven point three -seven percent increase in six years. This was made known by the South East Zonal Coordinator National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr Miriam Ezekwe at a stakeholders coordination meeting held on the 23rd February 2022 at King David Hotel, Awka. Dr Miriam noted that the epidemic control was achieved as a result of policies, resources and actions put together to enable person infected to seek medical attention rather than suffering in silence.  She however said that the non health sector interventions such as HIV/AIDS peer education, Condom and lubricants, Palliative Care, Syringe and needle distribution and others are equally key in achieving zero HIV infections, zero
