  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  Northern Lawyers Forum Reacts To Killings At Tudun Biri Community The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum has expressed worry over the recent airstrikes on innocent civilians which resulted to loss of many lives and others injured at Tudun Biri Community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Addressing newsmen on behalf of the forum, Barrister Nafi'u Abubakar expressed the resolve of the legal fraternity in Northern Nigeria to support the affected victims and their families, and to also ensure that justice is served, and rights of the victims are protected. Gaza fighting intensifies, U.S. vetoes Security Council demand for ceasefire The United States kept up pressure on Israel to do more to protect Palestinian civilians during a fierce offensive against Hamas militants across Gaza, even as Washington vetoed a UN Security Council demand for an immediate ceasefire. Fighting escalated and the Palestinian death toll rose on Friday, with Israel pounding the enclave from north to south in an expanded phase of the two-month-old war against the Islamist group Hamas. Decrying a “spiralling humanitarian nightmare”, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared that nowhere in Gaza was safe for civilians, hours before the U.S. vetoed a Security Council resolution backed by the vast majority of its members calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. U.S. embassy in Baghdad confirms missile attack Two rocket salvos were fired at the U.S. embassy in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Friday, according to a U.S. embassy spokesman. An embassy spokesman said there were no casualties even as he stated they were investigating the incident. There are indications that pro-Iranian militias were behind the attack. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. “We again call on the Iraqi government to do everything in its power to protect the personnel and facilities of diplomats and coalition partners,” the spokesman said. He referred to the right to self-defence. The US State Department in Washington also condemned the attack and called on the Iraqi security forces to immediately investigate who was behind it and bring the perpetrators to justice. “The many Iran-aligned militias operating freely in Iraq threaten the security and stability of Iraq, our people and our partners in the region,” a ministry spokesman said. Why I flaunt my set of teeth grill – Singer Simi Singer Simi Kosoko recently shared with her fans a picture of her wearing a set of grills on her teeth.  She mentioned that she was initially hesitant to show them off, as most of her inner circle didn’t think it suited her. According to her, she doesn’t want her husband’s money to be wasted, a reason she alluded to flaunting it. Police arrest Rapper Kodak Black over cocaine possession in Florida Popular American rapper, Bill Kapri, popularly known as Kodak Black, has been arrested in Florida for cocaine possession, tampering with evidence, and violating the terms of his probation. The 26-year-old was arrested on Thursday. According to a police statement, the rapper was spotted with drugs nodding off in a Bentley in Plantation at 3 a.m. Kodak Black was being held at the Broward County jail but was permitted to depart on Thursday night, according to NBC Miami. It’s worth noting that former US President Donald Trump commuted Black’s 46-month prison sentence for falsifying information on federal forms to buy firearms. The rapper was previously convicted of grand theft of a firearm, marijuana possession, child negligence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. ACTDA Demolishes Shanties, Illegal Structures To Give Awka Facelift  By Ukpa Ewa In resolve to rid-off Awka of illegal structures, the  Awka Capital Development Authority (ACTDA) has demolished shanties and illegal structures in Unizik Tempsite, Anambra State ahead of the yuletide celebration. Speaking to journalists during the exercise, the Deputy Commander Enforcement team, Mr. Ukachukwu Okonkwo, said that the exercise was a monthly routine to improve serenity in and around the state capital. Okonkwo who explained that the shanties demolished were the ones blocking the drainage systems, maintained that the law made it clear for those who intended to build drainage covers to use an iron bar that is removable for easy cleanup. "The state government passed a law that if you want to build aq cross-over  gutter, you must construct it with iron bars or removable slaps for easy clean up during sanitation or desilting to allow free flow of water and movement of vehicles," he said.
