  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.                  President Muhammadu Buhari arrived the country today friday at about 7:45 a.m,51 days after he left the country on a medical vacation.Owing to the closure of the Abuja airport,presidency sources informed newsmen that his plane was scheduled to land at the Kaduna airport in the wee hours of friday,following which he was to be flown by helicopter to the President Villa,Abuja. The sources also revealed that the president might address the nation friday after his long absence,in order to quell any concerns over his capacity to govern.The news of his return today friday was broken last night in a statement by his media aide,Mr Femi Adesina.Mr Adesina recalled that the president left the shores of the country on January 19 for a vacation,during which he was scheduled to undergo routine medical check-ups.                   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today March 9,2017 secured the conviction of four counterfeit currency dealers before Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court Kebbi on a four count charge of conspiracy and possession of counterfeit currency. The convicts,Usman Ahmed,Isiyaku Mohammed,Mohammed Abubakar Badadi and Rilwanu Abdullahi were arrested by officers off the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at Birnin Kebbi while in possession of a sum of N583,000 {Five Hundred and Eighty Three Thousand Naira Only} in fake one thousand Naira notes.The case was eventually transferred to the commission for further investigation. After listening to the charge,all the accused persons pleaded guilty to the four count charge.In view of the plea of the accused persons,prosecution counsel,N.K Ukoha urged the court to convict them accordingly.Justice Amobeda convicted all the accused persons as charged,before sentence was delivered,counsel for the defendants S.
