Ogun State Police Bans The Use Of Fireworks, And Explosives During Yuletide Celebrations There has been a complaint from residents about their inability to differentiate between gunshots and genuine fireworks. The Police Command in Ogun has banned the use of fireworks and explosives in the state during the Yuletide celebrations. SP Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday. Odutola said there had been complaints from residents about their inability to differentiate between gunshots and genuine fireworks. Strike: Maritime Workers Shut Down Lagos Seaport Members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have shutdown the Tin-can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos in compliance with the nationwide strike by the organized labour. The strike is coming on the instructions of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) after its national executive council meeting held on Monday, directing all affiliates of the Congress to strictly comply.  Gov Namadi Presents Over N298b Appropriation Bill To Jigawa Assembly  Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has presented a sum of over 298 billion naira before the State House of Assembly as an appropriation bill for the 2024 fiscal year.  Umar Namadi stated that the budget, tagged "Budget For A Greater Jigawa," has an estimated value of 298.14 billion naira, which is almost 23% higher than the total appropriations in the 2023 Fiscal Year. According to him, in line with the principles of fiscal responsibility, the sum of 10.72 billion naira has been earmarked for stabilization and contingency funds, which is equivalent to about 4% of the real recurrent revenue estimates.  He said the sum of over 111 billion naira, representing about 37% of the total budget, was earmarked for recurrent expenditures, while the balance of about 175.44 billion naira, representing almost 59%, is allocated to capital investments.  Malam Umar Namadi further explained that the proposed 2024 budget i

  Activities Crippled At National Assembly, NNPC  Activities were crippled at the National Assembly and headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Abuja on Tuesday. This is as a result of the directive of the organised labour comprising Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to all its affiliate unions. Labour had directed its members nationwide to down tools in protest of the attack on the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State. Although the National Industrial Court, Abuja, had restrained both the NLC and the TUC from embarking on the strike, the movement, however, ignored the order, insisting that the government at all levels must wake up to its responsibilities.
