 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

Tribunal: Atiku Claims Victory, Tells Court to Direct INEC to Declare Him President-Elect For Winning Majority States The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has asked the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) to uphold the submission by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that he won 21 states in the February 25 presidential election. Atiku Abubakar made the request in his final written address in support of his joint petition with the PDP, challenging the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winner of the presidential election. Court Convicts Photographer, One Other for Internet Fraud in Kaduna The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of One Goje Jehu Zason (aka Mark Anthony) and Williams Justice Gankon before Justice A.A Isiaka  of the Kaduna State High Court on separate one count charge bordering on internet fraud.  They pleaded guilty to the charges, consequently, the prosecution counsel, E.K. Garba and M.U Gadaka urged the court to convict them accordingly.  Justice Isiaka convicted and sentenced Gankon to one year imprisonment without any option of fine while Zason was sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of fine of N150,000.  The defendants are to forfeit all proceeds and gadgets used to commit the crime to the Federal Government of Nigeria.  More photos below.

Court Sends Picker, Two Others to Prison for Internet Scam in Benin City Justice M. Itsueli of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City on Thursday, July 20, 2023 convicted and sentenced Kelly Alakpa to prison for fraud. Alakpa, 31, who claims to be a businessman, was arraigned by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for offences bordering on retention of proceeds of crime. Upon arraignment the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge prompting the prosecution counsel, Salihu Ahmed to pray the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. However, the defence counsel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the defendant is a first time offender. Justice Itsueli convicted and sentenced Alakpa to three years imprisonment or a fine of N300, 000. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them. Justice Ekwo granted bail to the defendants on the terms of the administrative bail earlier offered them by the EFCC, and adjourned till October 17, 2023 for commencement of trial.
