 Oyo: 14 suspected thugs arrested over attack on electoral officials No fewer than 14 suspected political thugs have been arrested for attacking electoral officials and allegedly snatching ballot papers meant for election in Kajola local government area of Oyo State slated for Saturday. Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Isiaka Olagunju, confirmed the attack on Friday. Olagunju maintained that the Divisional Police Officer in the town had been mandated to arrest the suspects. He further debunked rumors claiming that ballot papers were snatched during the attack. Olagunju said, “That is not true. The fact is that there was an attack on our officials last night. Our officials were attacked at our office at Okeho. No ballot paper was snatched. “In fact, the DPO of Okeho and other security agencies followed our Electoral Officer back to Ibadan. They just went back to Okeho now. And we have directed the DPO of Okeho to arrest the suspects.”

Brave Nigerian Man Riding His Motorcycle from London to Lagos Enters Africa, Closes in on Casablanca, Morocco. Kunle Adeyanju, the Nigerian man who is riding on his bike from London, the United Kingdom to Lagos, Nigeria, is now in Africa. The brave man shared a selfie picture indicating that he is close to Casablanca, Morocco as seen in a signpost where he took the photo. Kunle had announced his journey last week, saying it is a journey of 12,000km which would take 25 days to complete. The Nigerian man, Kunle Adeyanju, who has undertaken a charity ride from London, the United Kingdom to Lagos, Nigeria, has arrived in Africa. A philanthropist, Ramatu Abarshi, has been abducted by terrorists alongside her daughter, Amira, after distributing Ramadan gifts to local communities of Mariri town in the Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. According to Daily Nigeria, the bandits trailed them on Saturday noon around Kasuwan Magani in the Kachia Local Government Area, the southern part of Kaduna State. Mrs Abarshi, a former Head of Department of Electrical Engineering, Kaduna Polytechnic, is known for philanthropic work and peace initiatives in Southern Kaduna. When contacted, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammed Jalige, said he was unaware of the incident.  “You know people don’t always report such incidents immediately to the police,” he said. In recent months, Kaduna has witnessed a spate of violent attacks which has led to killings and abduction of residents.

Amild drama ensued on Monday at the resumed hearing of the murder case of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), when Magdalene Chiefuna, the second defendant in the matter slumped in the courtroom.   The Presiding Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo immediately adjourned the matter to allow the defendant to be attended to. Chiefuna was said to have slumped when the lawyer for the defendants was arguing over the propriety of handing over the case to the human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).   She was reportedly coughing repeatedly before the court clerk and corrections officials rushed to her side. Last week, the Osun State Government declared Falana as being in full charge of the prosecution of the case involving the murder of Timothy Adegoke. Adegoke was killed last November after lodging in the Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Ile-Ife, Osun State. The Federal Government has directed the re-opening of Idiroko, Jibiya, Kamba and Ikom borders closed in August of 2019 as part of  Measures to prevent the smuggling of illegal arms, food & agricultural products to stimulate local production. This was disclosed, in an interview with the National Public Relations Officer of the Service DC Timi Bomodi. He stated that the Service announced the immediate re-opening of these four land borders in compliance with recent Presidential directives. Nine members of a notorious kidnap syndicate terrorizing Abeokuta Ayetoro road in recent time were on Sunday 24th of April 2022 arrested in their hideout at Abule oba, off Ayetoro road, Abeokuta by men of Ogun state Police Command, in collaboration with local hunters, so safe corps, OPC, vigilante and men of Amotekun corps. The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, listed the suspects as; Hammed Taiwo, Kehinde Jimoh, Umar Sanda, Sanda Aliu, Ali Morandu, Usman Abubakar, Usman Mohammed, Umaru Ahmadu and Umaru Momodu were arrested, following a credible intelligence gathered by policemen at Sabo/Ilupeju divisional headquarters. The national mathematics centre of Nigeria 🇳🇬 (NMC) has crowned Miss Faith Odunsi of Ambassador College, Otta in Ogun State Nigeria as "MATHEMATICS QUEEN" for her outstanding performance in the National Olympiads Competition. Miss Faith Odunsi solved 19 mathematics questions in 60 seconds, and became the best girl in mathematics competition.  26 students of both senior and junior secondary Schools across the country were also given awards in different categories in mathematics science. Miss Faith Odunsi, 15 years old represented Nigeria at the Global  Mathematics Competition, beats China, United States of America, United Kingdom and others and became the world best mathematics student .
