  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. The Kano Hisbah Board, also known as the Islamic police has explained why it treats the rich and the poor differently while enforcing some of its rules.  A director of the Islamic police, Aliyu Kibiya gave the explanation when he featured on a Freedom Radio programme.  According to Kibiya, it is against the tenets of Islam to publicly criticise a leader. He said, “Although we call on everybody in the society to do the right thing, we make the call on a case by case basis. “It is against the tenets of Islam to mount the podium and call out leaders. There are ways to caution a leader without criticising him in public."

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has disclosed that the administration of Moderna vaccine for citizens will continue this weekend: Saturday, 28th and Sunday, 29th August, 2021. Abayomi revealed this on Friday after receiving a preliminary report of day three of the vaccination exercise in Lagos State. He explained that the plan to vaccinate this weekend was necessitated by the need to ensure that residents, who were scheduled for vaccination on Saturday and Sunday, get their first dose as scheduled to avoid a backlog that may strain the process. The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a multimillion Naira upgrade of key infrastructure at the Lagos Television (LTV) as part of a comprehensive plan to reposition the State-owned television station for national and international competitiveness. According to a release by Mr. Rasaq Musbau, the Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), the Project Management Team from the Agency recently went on an inspection tour of the complex and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work. He explained that the facility is now a beehive of activities carried out by construction workers to deliver a phased plan to revamp the 41-year-old television station. Musbau stated that the upgrade entails the modernisation of the entire complex as the first step towards a complete turnaround of the station's facilities. Economic hardship being experienced in Imo State has been compounded following the strike by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) now sells for N500 per litre at the black market. This situation has consequently caused over a 100% rise in transport fares across the state. Members of the Imo State chapter of IPMAN had on Wednesday commenced a strike over refusal of the Imo State government to honour a court judgment to pay compensation to a member of the association whose fuel station was demolished by the past administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha. As the strike enters its 3rd day, black market operators are now having a field day, with a litre of fuel now costing between N500 and N550. Fuel stations operating in the state have all shut down.
