 Oyo: 14 suspected thugs arrested over attack on electoral officials No fewer than 14 suspected political thugs have been arrested for attacking electoral officials and allegedly snatching ballot papers meant for election in Kajola local government area of Oyo State slated for Saturday. Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Isiaka Olagunju, confirmed the attack on Friday. Olagunju maintained that the Divisional Police Officer in the town had been mandated to arrest the suspects. He further debunked rumors claiming that ballot papers were snatched during the attack. Olagunju said, “That is not true. The fact is that there was an attack on our officials last night. Our officials were attacked at our office at Okeho. No ballot paper was snatched. “In fact, the DPO of Okeho and other security agencies followed our Electoral Officer back to Ibadan. They just went back to Okeho now. And we have directed the DPO of Okeho to arrest the suspects.”

Abducted Corp members regain freedom in Rivers About seven members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) who were abducted on their way to Port Harcourt, Rivers State from the orientation camp in Ondo State have regained their freedom after spending one week in the kidnappers den. Confirming this development to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said: “I have just contacted the Rumuji Police Division. The corpers have been released.” Recall that last week Tuesday, 12 Corps members were abducted by armed men along the Rumuji axis of the East-West Road, Emuoha Local Government Area of the State. It was gathered that among the 12 that were abducted, five managed to escape. Also confirming the release of the abducted Corps members is a family member of one of the victims. The financial support was part of the ministry's mandate in ensuring that the vulnerable beggars caught in the streets are empowered to start up some businesses. Handing over the cash to the disabled beggar, Ifeoma Chukwu, a native of Otolo Nnewi, the Women and social welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo who noted that the support came from the wife of the governor of Anambra state, Mrs Nonye Soludo, advised her to make good use of the money given to him. Hon Obinabo used the medium to warn miss Chukwu that if she's caught again, she will be charged to court. Air Force operatives assault KAI officers.  The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps popularly known as KAI has bemoaned the frequent attacks meted out by operatives of military formations and uninformed citizens on its operatives embarked on lawful enforcement duties in the State, thereby obstructing the course of justice. LG CHAIR DIES IN YOBE LESS THAN 24 HOURS TO SWEARING-IN The newly appointed Chairman, Caretaker Management Committee of Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, Lawan Gana has died.  According to reports, Gana died on Thursday at Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, after a brief illness. This is coming as all the 17 LG Chairmen Caretaker Management Committees will be sworn-in on Friday by Governor Mai Mala Buni. Between 2023 and 2007, the deceased was elected as member Yobe State House of Assembly representing Karasuwa local government on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP). He was also a PDP deputy gubernatorial candidate in 2015, but defected to APC in 2019.

MAKINDE DISSOLVES WASTE MANAGEMENT TASK FORCE  Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered the dissolution of the State Task Force on Waste Management. The Chairman, Transition and Inauguration Committee, Segun Ogunwuyi, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the dissolution is with immediate effect. The task force, chaired by the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Intervention, Mrs. Aderonke Adedayo, was inaugurated October, 2022. Other members of the task force include the chairman of the defunct Waste Management task force, Mr. Francis Ojomo, Mr. Ademola Aderinto, who is Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment; Miss Ololade Ajibola, Special Assistant on Special Duties and Mr. Ayoade Adekola.

FG DEVELOPS APP TO TRACK PROJECT EXECUTION, REPORT PROGRESS  The Federal Government has developed a citizen-based web application, EYEMARK, to enable Nigerians to track the execution of capital projects and report progress to the government. The Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba stated this during the end-of-tenure news conference in Abuja on Thursday. Agba said that the application would enable Nigerians within the country and in the diaspora to track the execution of government projects.
