  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Gunmen  on New Year day stormed the home of an Ebubeagu commander in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing his wife. They also set ablaze his country home in Owutu Edda community in the attack which occured at around 2am on Sunday. Police spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the incident in a statement. He said: “At about 0230hrs of 01/01/2023, the house of the Afikpo-South Ebubeagu Commander, Oyeku Kalu Chima, located at Owutu Edda, was attacked and set ablaze while his wife Urenwa Kalu Chima was shot dead. “The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Aliyu Garba psc (+) has directed that immediate investigation be activated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge the State Criminal Investigation/Intelligence Department (SCIID) to unravel those behind the crimes . “Further to that, detectives of the SCIID and operatives of the command’s tactical teams have taken over proceedings in the area as the CP orders that the perpetrators must be fi

PETER OBI IS WORTHLESS  We read with amusement the endorsement of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his New Year message on Sunday.  Following calls by journalists from various media houses who asked for our reaction we decided to make this preliminary statement, though we didn't consider the so-called endorsement to be of any value.  We respect the democratic right of former President Obasanjo to support and endorse any candidate of his choice in any election.  Except that he made it known formally in his new year message, any discerning political watcher in Nigeria knows that Chief Obasanjo’s  preference for Peter Obi is expected. MUSICIAN 'ANITA POINTER ' PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 74.(PHOTOS).#RIP

Anita Pointer, one of four sibling singers who earned pop success and critical acclaim as The Pointer Sisters, died Saturday at the age of 74, her publicist says. The group's 1973 self-titled debut album included the breakout hit, “Yes We Can Can.” Known for hit songs including “I’m So Excited,” “Slow Hand,” “Neutron Dance” and “Jump (For My Love),” the singers gained a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. The 1983 album “Break Out” went triple platinum and garnered two American Music Awards. The group won three Grammy Awards and had 13 U.S. top 20 hit songs between 1973 and 1985, Neal said. The Pointer Sisters also was the first African American group to perform on the Grand Ole Opry program and the first contemporary act to perform at the San Francisco Opera House. More photos below.

The King has sent a message of condolence to Pope Francis following the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI: Your Holiness, I received the news of the death of your predecessor, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, with deep sadness. I remember with fondness my meeting with His Holiness during my visit to the Vatican in 2009. His visit to the United Kingdom in 2010 was important in strengthening the relations between the Holy See and the United Kingdom. I also recall his constant efforts to promote peace and goodwill to all people, and to strengthen the relationship between the global Anglican Communion and the Roman Catholic Church.   My wife and I send you our continued good wishes for your own pontificate. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has endorsed Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) for the presidency. He made the endorsement on Sunday in his New Year message to Nigerians. According to him, “None of the contestants is a saint but when one compares their character, antecedent, their understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality that they can bring to bear and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge. Others like all of us have what they can contribute to the new dispensation to liberation, restoration and salvaging of Nigeria collectively”.

1st January, 2023 PRESS RELEASE   DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND RESCUES THREE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS, RECOVERS  ONE LOCALLY MADE GUN On 31/12/2022, at about 0120hours, while police operatives attached to Orerokpe Division were on visibility patrol duty along Warri/Sapele road by Okuvo and Egborede Communities, they sighted some persons being dragged into the bush. The operatives suspected that they may have been kidnapped, so they trailed them into the bush. The hoodlums, upon realizing that the policemen were closing in on them, opened fire on the team, and the policeman equally responded. The hoodlums who could not withstand the firepower of the operatives abandoned the victims and escaped. The victims (names withheld) aged 40yrs, 54yrs and 49yrs respectively, were rescued unhurt and have been reunited with their families. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing. 23-Year-Old NSUK Student Emerges New Miss Buh  ***  A 23-year-old student of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Miss Becky Yanga Alex has won the 2022/2023 edition of Miss Buh Beauty Pageant.  She was announced winner at the grand finale held on Saturday, December 31 in Nakere, the headquarters of the Buh-speaking ethnic group in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.  The 23-year-old student defeated Miss Yangah Peter Bala to succeed Miss Tessy Danazumi Gamna as Miss Buh.  Similarly, Isaac Peter has emerged as the new Mr. Buh of the 2022/2023 edition unopposed.  Speaking at the event, the youth leader of Buh Cultural Development Association (BCDA), Comrade Alfred Audu Gbaja said the pageantry was aimed fostering peace and unity.  The event was attended by sons and daughters of the ethnic group from all walks of life.

Late Pope Benedict Lies In Home Chapel  The Vatican on Sunday shared photos of the late Pope emeritus, Benedict XVI, lying in his home chapel. Benedict died on Saturday aged 95. The Vatican revealed that the body of the Pope emeritus will remain at rest at the 'Mater Ecclesiae' monastery, where had been living before death. However, from Monday morning at 9 am, the Pope Emeritus’ body with lie in state in St. Peter’s Basilica for public viewing until Thursday morning. Pope Benedict XVI, who became the first Pontiff in 600 years to resign, has died aged 95. A spokesman for the Holy See confirmed Benedict died on Saturday morning, December 31, 2022. They said: "With sorrow I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9.34am in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican. Nigeria needs change of name in 2023, says Moghalu 1 January 2023  Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Kingsley Moghalu, has said the country needs a change of name in 2023.  He argued that the country’s name conjures too many bad memories.  His proposal, however, elicited a flurry of reactions especially from social media users. As NDLEA nabs 3 traffickers with 256kgs illicit drugs in Kwara, Kogi, Niger Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted a Brazil returnee, Agbasi Prosper Chux with 105 parcels of cocaine concealed in candies at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Christmas Day. The suspect was arrested at the D arrival hall of the MMIA during inward clearance of passengers from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha on Qatar Airways on Monday, 25th December 2022 following credible intelligence. An initial search of the suspects two checked in bags almost made him a free man as there was nothing incriminating found there until the NDLEA officers took a second look at the duty-free shopping nylon bags containing packs of candies he was holding in his hands. A thorough examination of the duty-free shopping bags revealed the packs of candies inside were actually used to conceal
