 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

NIGERIAN ARMY DID NOT ISSUE ANY STATEMENT ON SSC/DSSC SCREENING.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE

  The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to fake information being circulated in the social media by mischief makers claiming that the just concluded SSC/DSSC screening has been scrapped because of the “change in administration of the Nigerian Army”. The fake report also stated that SSC course 47 and DSSC Course 26 registration will begin from 1st of September 2021 till 1st of October 2021 and that all applicants that registered for SSC 47 and DSSC 26 are advised to register again. The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the general public that it does not charge any fees for online registration and other related matters and advice people to be wary of activities of scammers. The Army states that the above information is totally false as the statement did not emanate from the office of the Military Secretary nor any department of the Army.   We are aware of precautionary concerns that have been raised regarding one specific batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine, namely ABV5300. We understand that investigations are being conducted to determine if the batch is in any way linked to an observed side effect. While we await the outcome of the investigations, it is important to clearly state that Nigeria did not receive any doses from the batch of vaccines which is at issue. Vaccinations in Nigeria started earlier this month and we have not observed any similar adverse reactions. All side effects reported by those who have been administered the vaccine have been mild.   Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Friday, March 12, 2021 convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old lecturer at the Kwara State College of Health Technology (Health Tech) Offa, Adebisi Ademola, to six months imprisonment over his involvement in love scam. Ademola was among the thirty-three suspected internet fraudsters arrested on the September 14, 2020 in Offa area of Kwara State. The defendant was prosecuted by the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on one count bordering on romance scam, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 95 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office on Friday, March 12, 2021 arrested fifty seven suspected internet fraudsters at their hotel hideouts and recovered two pump action rifles. The suspects were arrested in Yewa Frontier Hotel & Resort, Ellysam Hotel & Suits, April Suits and IBD International Hotels, all in Ilaro, Ogun State. The operation followed actionable intelligence linking them to alleged fraudulent activities, ranging from love scam on numerous dating sites, obtaining money by false pretenses and other cybercrimes. Four exotic cars, mobile phones, laptops, two rifles and several incriminating documents were recovered from the suspects. APEX COURT UPHOLDS EX-GOV. DARIYE'S 10-YEAR SENTENCE.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

  The Supreme Court on Friday, March 12, 2021, upheld the 10 years prison term imposed on former Plateau Governor, Joshua Dariye who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for fraud. It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on November 16, 2018 affirmed the ruling of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, which convicted and sentenced Dariye for diverting public funds estimated at N1.162billion while he was the Governor. A three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Stephen Adah, in its decision, upheld the judgement by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), delivered on June 12, 2018. However, dissatisfied by the Appellate Court’s ruling Dariye appealed to the Supreme Court. The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), has assisted a petitioner, Mr. Tajudeen Olabisi Saka, in securing a refund of N1.65 million from the seller of a defective Printing Machine earlier purchased. Presenting the cheque to him on Thursday at the Agency’s office in Ikeja, the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo (Esq), noted that it is part of the mandate of the agency to ensure the protection of consumers from all forms of unwholesome practices from sellers, producers and manufacturers in Lagos.   In furtherance of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensure effective and efficient transportation through quality road infrastructure, the Falomo Bridge will be closed for repair works for six weeks from Sunday, 14th March to Friday 30th April, 2021. A statement signed by the State Commissioner for Transportaion, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, noted that the repairs will run on a 24-hour shift in phases to enable the contractor complete repairs within the estimated set time and minimise the anticipated inconveniences to road users. He explained that the first stage of the repairs will cover the Victoria Island-bound lane of the bridge, which will be closed to traffic, adding that motorists heading towards Victoria Island will be diverted to the Ikoyi bound lanes to create a counter-flow. The Incident Commander in the State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, kicked off the vaccine rollout programme after he got the first jab of the serum supplied by the Federal Government. Sanwo-Olu was vaccinated on Friday afternoon at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Yaba, behind the Deputy Incident Commander and Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who took the first shot.
