Resident Doctors Suspend Nationwide Strike The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike and will resume work on Saturday. The association’s national president Innocent Orji confirmed the development on Friday evening. “Good evening. We just suspended the strike. Work to resume 8 am tomorrow,” he said in a terse message to Journalists. “We will review the progress made in two weeks.” The move is coming days after the doctors suspended their planned nationwide protest to press home their demands. According to the NARD chief, the doctors are pushing for eight things including the recruitment of more persons to replace doctors who have migrated or those who passed on. “Our members are suffering. Nigerians are suffering too. When you don’t have the right number of doctors in the hospital, there is no way it is not going to affect the healthcare service delivery system. Banditry: Kaduna Lawmaker Cries Out Over Invasion Of Constituency A member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Auwal Umar Bijimi has cried out over the abduction of his constituents. Bijimi, representing Giwa West Constituency, said bandits are consistently attacking villagers in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State by taking advantage of a damaged bridge. He raised the alarm on the floor of the State House Assembly on Wednesday. According to him, the bandits have erected roadblocks at the compromised bridge to facilitate their criminal activities. I Was Simply Doing My Business, Hotel Owner Caught With Drugs Argues Against Arrest By Police The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has taken to the social networking app X (formerly Twitter) to share the story of a lounge owner recently arrested by his men for allowing guests to smoke the hard drug known as Colorado in her lounge. According to Hundeyin, Friday, the owner admitted to knowing her guests were smoking but insisted they had suppliers who provided them with the drugs in her lounge. This, according to her, exempts her from any crime. "We arrested people smoking ‘Colorado’ & ‘loud’ in a lounge and the lounge owner too. The owner admits she knew it was hard drug but didn’t get it for them. A supplier brings it to them in her lounge. She insists we shouldn’t have arrested her as she was just doing her business." Hundeyin continued on his Twitter page, asking followers if the lounge owner is in the right or wrong.  

EFCC Busts 'Yahoo-Yahoo' Hideout in Makurdi, Arrests 14 Suspects Operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, arrested 14 suspected internet fraudsters in Makurdi, Benue State. The suspects: Solomon Oloche, Innocent Ochola, Aselo Kendra Wisdom, Simon Jeff, Innocent Raphael, Akula Kelvin, Emmanuel Okanche, Francis Chikodirie, Atoo Michael, Ochayi Nelson, Ngutor Paul, Michael Tyobe, Samuel Okanche, and Patience Tseaa were arrested after series of surveillance based on intelligence on their alleged criminal activities. Items recovered from them include a Toyota Camry Car, 14 iPhones, 11 Android phones, 6 Laptop computers, different ATM Cards, a flash drive, MTN Router, Tus bike and several incriminating documents. LAGOS TRANSPORT MINISTRY INSPECTS GARAGES TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE WITH GOVERNOR’S FARE REDUCTION DIRECTIVE Following series of complaints received by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation that some Public Transport Operators did not totally comply with the pronouncement of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu which mandates all state-owned buses as well as the commercial buses (yellow buses) to reduce fares by 50% and 25% respectively, to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal on commuters, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, and his team conducted inspections at selected parks and garages on Thursday to assess level of compliance. Tribunal sacks Kano House of Reps Member, Yerima over fake certificate The National and State House of Assembly elections petition tribunal, in Kano on Thursday nullified the election of member representing Tarauni Federal Constituency at the house of representatives Muktar Yerima. Yerima was declared winner of the February 18th 2023 election under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hafizu Kawu. The former member of the House of Representatives, Kawu petitioned the tribunal, challenging the legitimacy of Yerima’s victory on the basis of a fake certificate. Delivering the judgement on Thursday, the three-panel Justices upheld Kawu’s petition and nullified the sitting NNPP member’s election.
