 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Man Bags 2 Years for Possession of Counterfeit Currency The Kano Zonal Command of the EFCC on 22 July, 2022, secured the conviction of one Abbas Saleh before Justice Obiora Egwuta of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano on a one count charge of possession of counterfeit currency. The convict was arraigned by the Commission on the 14th of October, 2019 for allegedly being in possession of counterfeit United States Dollars and attempting to exchange the same to Naira at Wapa Market Kano. Saleh pleaded not guilty to the two count charge preferred against him by the prosecution thereby settling the stage for his full trial.

Security operatives attached to the state’s special security outfits, OP MESA, allegedly shot dead a 17-year-old female student of Unity High School in Ago Ika area of Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday, July 21.  According to Daily Trust, the SS 2 student identified simply as Sadiat was mistakenly shot by the operatives who were chasing a suspected internet fraudster, popularly known as “yahoo boy". It was gathered that Sadiat and others were walking out of the school premises after close of school for the day, when a bullet fired by the security operatives mistakenly hit her in the head.  The student, said to be the only daughter of her mother, was confirmed d3ad at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she was rushed to for treatment, while three other students and a commercial motorcyclist were also reportedly hit by the stray bullets fired by the operatives.  Angered by the development, the victim’s colleagues stormed the Enu-Gada Police station in Ago Ika

Atiku Says 90% Of Northerners Are Not On Social Media Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he is not expecting the Labour Party (LP) to pull off a surprise to win the 2023 presidential election. Atiku spoke in an interview on Arise TV on Friday. Speaking further, the former vice-president said 90 percent of people in the north are not social media, insinuating that it will limit the chances of the LP to win the 2023 presidential election. “So, it is very difficult to expect a miracle to happen, simply because Peter Obi is in the Labour Party. After all, they were saying through social media, they had more than one million votes in Osun state,” he said. “But how many votes turned for the Labour Party? And then again, mark you, you’re talking about social media. In the north, 90 percent of our people are not tuned to social media.”

Renovation Of National Assembly Cost N30bn - Minister  The Federal Capital Territory Administration would spend N30.222 billion in the ongoing rehabilitation of the National Assembly Complex, the Minister, Malam Musa Bello had said.   Bello disclosed this on Thursday when the Senate Committee on FCT carried out an oversight visit to various project sites being constructed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) in Abuja, according to Daily Post. He disclosed that the cost of approval of the rehabilitation work by President Muhammadu Buhari was N37 billion, which was included in the 2020 budget of the Federal Capital Development Administration.   He, however, explained that the cost was reviewed downward to N9.25 billion in the revised 2020 budget to enable the FCDA to pay contractors, leaving a balance of N21.025 billion.   Bello stated that the total cost of rehabilitation work which stood at N30,229, 290,830.35 billion was not part of the National Assembly’s annual bud

Governor Soludo Assents To 2022 Revised Budget Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has signed the 2022 Revised Appropriation bill of N170 billion naira into Law. OSUN ELECTION: DELAY IN PAYMENT OF ALLOWANCES OF SOME OFFICERS CAUSED BY THEIR BANK, NOT POLICE - FPRO  - As Police Discredits News Reports  With regards to the payment of allowances of Police Officers who participated in the Osun State Gubernatorial Election duty, it is pertinent to emphasize that officers scheduled for the duty had their account details forwarded to the Police Accounts and Budget (PAB) office at the Force Headquarters where payments were prepared and disbursed accordingly.  The said payment of allowances to cover the election duty was disbursed directly into individual accounts from the PAB Office and not through any State Police Command. As such, individuals started receiving payment alerts even before the commencement of the election.  However, one of the new generation banks (name withheld), with whom some of the officers accounts are domiciled, reported delays in disbursement due to technical issues.
