 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Nigerian Pastor, Wife Welcome Child After 20 Years Of Waiting An Abuja-based pastor, Iyke Ezekiel, and his wife, Doris, have welcomed their baby girl after 20 years of childlessness. The lead pastor of the Household of Love Church, Yinka Yusuf, shared the news on his Facebook account and shared pictures from the child dedication which went viral on Wednesday. He wrote, “After 20 years of waiting, God blessed my beloved son, Pastor Iyke the Pastor of our Abuja household of love church and his beautiful wife Doris with a wonderful baby and I was there in Abuja this morning to dedicate the baby. BUHARI SEEKS SENATE’S APPROVAL TO PAY N226BN, $556.8M, £98.5M JUDGEMENT DEBTS President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to approve a request to pay the judgment debt in the sum of $566,754,584.31, £98,526,012.00, and N226 billion. It was gathered that the monies were owed by the Federal Government through the issuance of promissory notes. Buhari’s letter of request was read at plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday. It would be recalled that there were 648 cases brought against the president and other FG parastatals.

 #ENDSARS: SENATE PASSES BILL TO COMPENSATE VICTIMS The Senate on Wednesday passed for second reading, a bill seeking to compensate victims of the EndSARS protest. The bill titled, A Bill for an Act to Amend the National Emergency Management Agency Act was sponsored by Senator Gershom Bassey a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Cross River State. Bassey, in his lead debate, said the bill seeks to provide for the establishment of the EndSARS Victims Compensation Fund. He said that, as a result of the Endsars nationwide protests in October 2020, judicial panels of inquiry were constituted to address the demands of protesters and compensation for verified victims of the EndSARS protest. He noted that the judicial panels of inquiry and the Senate Joint Committee on Endsars revealed the killing of protesters, and destruction of private and public properties by rampaging hoodlums, who seized and took over the protest vandalizing and looting valuable assets.

Police gun down kidnap suspect, rescue doctor, nine others 24 May 2023  Benue State Police crime squad  yesterday said a  kidnap suspect was killed at Gaya, near Benue-Taraba state boundary. Ten victims were rescued, including a popular medical doctor with the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Makurdi, Obadia Etito, and a businesswoman and her two-year-old baby were also rescued. The squad said its operatives had an encounter with kidnappers on Monday, adding that three of the suspects were also arrested during the operation. The suspects were paraded at the Benue State Police Command headquarters, Makurdi, Monday. Dr. Etito was kidnapped with his brother when they missed their way along Zaki Biam Road, Benue, during a trip to Taraba State on May 13. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N30 million but police operatives stormed the criminals’ den at Gaya forest in the early hours of Monday, while negotiations were still ongoing, and arrested three of the suspects.  CBN Increases Interest Rate May 24, 2023 The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday, raised its benchmark lending rate to 18.5 per cent, from 18 per cent, in an aggressive push to contain the nation’s inflationary pressure. The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced this Wednesday after the bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting that began Tuesday. Mr Emefiele while addressing journalists at the end of the two-day meeting in Abuja, said the committee voted to keep the asymmetric corridor at +100 and -700 basis points around the MPR. He also disclosed that the MPC voted to keep the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) at 32.5 per cent while the Liquidity Ratio was retained at 30 per cent. “Ten members voted to raise the MPR by 15 basis points and one member by 25 basis points, and all members voted to keep all parameters in constant,” Mr Emefiele said. Police Arrests 10 Suspected Kidnappers In Wamba  ***  TEN suspected kidnappers and 16 others have been arrested for various criminal offences in Nasarawa State by operatives of the Nigeria Police.  The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel made this known during press briefing at the command’s headquarters on Wednesday in Lafia while parading the suspects.  According to Nansel, the press briefing was aimed at bringing members of the public up to date with the recent achievements recorded by the command in its bid to ensure a safe and secure state.  He said the suspected kidnappers were nabbed on May 23 following credible intelligence made available to a team of Mobile Policemen attached to Operation Restore Peace.  The Police Spokesperson revealed that the officers stormed the kidnappers’ hideout located at Ambaka village of Farin Ruwa Development Area, Wamba LGA, where the arrests were made and two victims rescued.  Those arrested include Sale Adamu 34yrs, Idi Halilu 27yr
