FALANA URGES DSS TO SPEED UP EMEFIELE, BAWA PROBE Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has urged the Department of State Services to hasten the investigation into the cases involving the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, and the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. Emefiele was arrested on June 10 by officials of the DSS over charges surrounding terrorism financing, while Bawa was arrested over allegations of abuse of office. Falana made the call while featuring on a Television Programme. Falana said that even if the DSS has obtained a court order to detain Emefiele and Bawa, the order cannot last for long. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria urged the Nigerian government to handle the cases in line with the provisions of the law to avoid a situation whereby loopholes are exploited.

PRESIDENT OF GUINEA-BISSAU, UMARO SISSOCO EMBALÓ VISITS TINUBU  President of Guinea-Bissau and Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, Umaro Sissoco Embaló has visited Lagos, where he met with President Bola Tinubu. It was gathered that President Tinubu, who recently returned from official trips to Paris and London, arrived at his Lagos residence on Tuesday. During his return, he reiterated his dedication to fostering collaboration between the National Assembly leadership and the President.

Women, others killed as terrorists fire mortar bomb into Borno community 1st Jul 2023  At least six people, including women, were killed and many sustained injuries when insurgents fired a mortar bomb into Damboa town in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state. It was learnt that the outlawed group came at exactly 8:30 pm to Waluri bridge in Damboa town and attacked a civilian JTF location. According to a security source, after they could not gain access into the town, the attackers fired a mortar bomb into the town. “There was an attack by ISWAP last night in Damboa town, we lost six people including women and more than 20 people were rushed to the hospital, the situation is calm now,” a security source said. It was gathered that Civilian members were shot in the attack. Workers who have been with the company for at least three years will receive an annual bonus of 10,000 yuan ($1,376) for each new-born child every year from the child’s first birthday until they reach the age of five. School Principal fakes his abduction over N12m fraud 1st Jul 2023  A secondary school principal, Matthew Afolabi has been ordered to be remanded in prison by an Akure Magistrate Court, in Ondo state, over N12m fraud and feigning his abduction. Afolabi, reportedly, faked his kidnap, after defrauding members of an association, Ifesowapo CTS, to the tune of N12 million. He was thereafter arrested by the personnel of the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun, and charged to court on two counts of fraud and faking his kidnap. His family members, staff, friends and members of lfesowapo CTS Association, were said to have lodged the report against him at the Amotekun office in the state capital. Lekki Port Receives First Transshipment Vessel  With the development of new deep seaports in the country, Nigeria is positioned to serve as the maritime logistics hub in the sub-region, taking back transit and transshipment cargoes for the neighboring landlocked countries. On Thursday June 29, at about 1 p.m., @LekkiPort received cargoes from two of the largest container shipping lines in the world, CMA-CGM and Maersk. The CMA-CGM vessel carried 411 TEUs of transshipment cargo destined for Cotonou and will depart on July 6, 2023. The vessels were navigated to the port with the 80-ton bollard pull tug boats recently acquired by the @NigerianPorts for seamless port operations at the Lekki Port corridor. This further reaffirms the Management’s commitment to expanding the frontiers of business and becoming the maritime logistics hub for sustainable port services in the subregion. More photos below.

I’ve no regrets on demolition, says Kano Gov Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said that he has no regrets regarding the demolition exercises and the recovery of public property embarked upon by his administration. Governor Yusuf said this while receiving the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, with district heads and members of the emirate council who paid him a Sallah homage at the government house as part of the Eid Kabir celebrations. Anambra installs clock-in device to curb absenteeism among health workers The Anambra State Government says it has commenced installation of clock-in device in public health facilities to curb absenteeism and ensure that health workers take their duties seriously. Dr Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health, said this in Awka during a meeting with administrators of public hospital the state. Obidike observed that during some of his unannounced visits to hospitals, many health workers were absent while some health facilities did not open for services. According to him, such attitude has contributed to mortalities recorded in the state and hindered progress in the health sector. The commissioner said the device would end absenteeism and indolence among health workers. He said Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration takes healthcare seriously and wants residents to have access to quality health services at the primary health centres, general hospitals and the tertiary health facilities. “T

The police killing of a 17-year-old in a Paris suburb sparked massive protests. Police shot the teen, identified as Nael M, at point-blank range outside the Paris suburb Nanterre during a stop over an alleged traffic violation. Protesters say the shooting is representative of racial bias and police violence against Black and North African residents. As protests spread across the country, France deployed over 2,000 officers across Paris, Aubervilliers, Colombes and Suresnes.

MAN BEATS PREGNANT WIFE TO COMA & GOES TO THE HOSPITAL TO REMOVE HER OXYGEN MASK A man who was identified as Anthony Ikpeama has been arrested by the Lagos State Police for beating his pregnant wife to death. Based on reports he beat his wife, Adaeze Ikpeama into a coma and went to Doyen Hospital, Ajah where she was taken to remove her oxygen mask which resulted in her untimely demise. The deceased was 6 months pregnant before she was heavily beaten by her husband which resulted in some complications and she was rushed to the hospital. Prior to this, there were reports that late Adaeze was subjected to a lot of domestic violence. She was a mother of two, lawyer and member of Nigerian Bar Association. However, her husband went to the hospital where she was admitted and took off the oxygen mask as she was in a coma. The suspect who was charged for constant assault on the deceased has been arrested by the Lagos State Police.
