FG To Terminate Abandoned Road Projects Worth Over N6tn The Federal Government is considering the termination of some abandoned projects inherited from previous successive governments that have no clear source of funding. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed this while briefing state house correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Umahi also disclosed that the President had approved some road construction projects and plans to toll some roads in the country.

Governor Adeleke and aides reportedly escape air crash after private jet catches fire Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state and his aides reportedly survived an aircraft crash after the private jet they had boarded, caught fire just before take off. According to a report by Leadership, by a stroke of luck, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, a Bombadier Global Express 6000, owned by billionaire businessman, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, caught fire at take-off point at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. Chief Adeleke is the father of singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and is also the brother of Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke. Confusion as black-clad widows stage street protest in Umuahia There was confusion in Umuahia on Saturday following a protest staged by about 500 widows clad in black attires. The women, who described themselves as ‘Widows United for the Liberation of Abia’, took to some streets in the state capital in what they called ‘Liberation March’. The widows, including old and middle-aged women, were heard swearing that it shall not be well with anybody who is against the progress of Abia State. Holding long sticks and raising their hands in prayers, the women moved from Library Avenue to Okpara Square, before heading to some other parts of the city. Staff Unions threaten To Shutdown Nubapoly Over Insecurity, Others Academic and Non-academic staff Unions of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria, Kaduna state have threatened to withdraw services over the planned withdrawal of military and other security personnel guarding the college. The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics (ASUP) Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Chapter Mr Usman Shehu Sulaiman, disclosed this during a joint press conference by the unions on Saturday in Zaria. Sulaiman said the aim was to inform the state government, parents and stakeholders about the security and other challenges hindering academic research, learning and other goals of the institution.  PTAD Pays Pensioners Over N800m Arrears Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has paid over N800m to 2,730 pensioners of the Civil service Pension Department being payment of accrued arrears and gratuity owned the pensioners. A statement by PTAD’s Head, Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi says the pensioners that benefitted from the payment include verified pensioners not on the payroll, those who did not receive their gratuity on retirement and failed payments on the GIFMIS platform. According to Statement, the Acting Executive Secretary of PTAD, Sulayman Shelleng, affirms that the payment will continue until all accrued arrears are paid. Shelleng assures other pensioners who are yet to receive their arrears to be calm as the Directorate is working tirelessly to ensure that all outstanding arrears of pensions and gratuity are paid soon. He further assures DBS pensioners of the Directorate’s continued strive to ensure that their welfare is promoted.

Major components of the exercise include distribution of about 89,000 bags of rice to 20 Local Governments Areas, payment of N10,000 each to the most vulnerable citizens, provision of mass transportation buses and payment of students scholarship. Pickpocket Narrates How He Makes Over N80, 000 Daily As OCHA Brigade Parades 34 Criminal Suspects  Operatives of the Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Taskforce and Anambra Vigilante Service have arrested three pickpockets, around Upper Iweka, Onitsha. Chukwuemeka Okafor, from Orlu, Imo state is suspected to lead the three-man gang.  The gang was arrested while conducting the act yesterday.  Their mode of operation, according to the Brigade, was to partner a driver and a conductor to deprive unsuspecting members of the public their hard earned money.  They confessed to the crime and said that he learnt the business from some group of friends in Onitsha.  He revealed they make roughly N80,000 everyday.  According to him, working with a driver and conductor is usually easy to intimidate or harassing any one who catches them in the act.
